For those going to Mackay we will have the Wrightway zapper at the track so you can get your setups zapped

Hi Carl,

Have you found out how many oesteds it has!!! Coz I don't want my magnets zapped if there aren't enough of them.

Aha,

Just "googled" Oersteds and found out that they are units of measurement of magnetism named (of course) after Hans Christian Oersted.

So we definitely needs lots of Oersteds.

Oh, you definitely need lots of Oersteds alright. I once forgot to take all of my Oersteds and I ended up in hospital for a week. It wasn't pretty.

The other problem is that even if you have the right number of Oersteds you might be emitting them in the wrong places or at the worng time. Nocturnal emissions are a particularly messy problem. Oersteds need to be emitted just so.

So remember: take lots of Oersteds, and be very very careful with your Oersted emissions.

So, the H-field strength at any point inside a long solenoid wound with 79.57 turns per meter of a wire carrying 1 amp will be approximately 1 oersted. The preceding statement is exactly correct if the solenoid considered is infinite in length and the current evenly distributed over its surface. The H-field remains the same regardless of material within the solenoid however the B-field is dependent on the H-field and the permeability of the material within.

Go figure...................
