2025 Geoghegan Trophy Race
Posted: Sat Nov 08, 2025 5:27 pm
Hi All,
It's that time again when racers from around Australia battle it out at SEAGULLS Raceway for this trophy.
A Potted History.
The Geoghegan Trophy Race has been held nearly every year since 1970.
The initial format was for Group 7 (open) Sedans but over the years many different classes have been raced including Retro CanAm and Wing Car 27's. At Seagulls for the past 4 years five classes are raced over the weekend with the best three results scored for the trophy win.
Friday
After a day of open practice it was time to start the proceedings
Plafit Historic
A popular class run every week at Seagulls this attracted 18 entries with 12 0f these being out of towners.
The 18 entries formed three Mains of six.
Concours
Rod painted this little beauty to take the honours.
Very fast time by local Nick.
C Main
Ian, James and 13 year old Denzel took out this close finish
B Main
Another close finish with Shack, Chuck and Jack finishing a lap apart
A Main
Nick dominated to take the win over Ken and Cody whilst I blew my chances by de-slotting on Green three times on the same corner
.
Final results - the Am racers are highlighted in Green.
End of the day so a bit of practice for tomorrows classes and off to the drinks
Saturday
Retro CanAm
Three Mains of 7 covered the 21 entries here.
Concours
Caine won Concours
I got fast time here with a chassis I finished building at the track the day before - just like the old days!
C Main
A great tussle between the local old hand Ian over young gun from ShowUsYaSlots Denzel.
B Main
Excellent run by Ryan from RPM to beat Rusty and Chuck who were batting all the way to finish on the same lap.
A Main
Cody just too good for me and slowly pulled away to win by two laps with Ken and Caine a further four behind.
Sedan Flexis
This was an interesting race as it was in essence two races in one with both tin can motors (Cheetah IV) and brushless 3000KV motors (Parma being the motor of choice by most if not all racers) running together. Points were awarded to both variants.
We had 24 entries so four mains of six this time.
D Main
SUYS racers Denzel, Brad and Steve take this one.
C Main
Daryl B/L, Locky and Ross B/L finished very closely.
B Main
Jack B/L and Qld Mick B/L (Team Belot) saw off Nick and myself B/L.
A Main
Cody B/L flying to win by 9 laps from local Am Shack B/L with Caine and Ken B/L one lap back.
Brushless V Cans
Brushless wins overall fairly convincingly.
So now my formula for the rest of the evening is -
Dinner at the bistro downstairs,
Some LMP and GTP tuning.
Off home to the beer fridge.
Sunday
Sunday dawns and the situation for the top 5 is: -
Cody 67 (with 2 wins)
Nick 59 (with 1 win)
Ken 54
Fox 47
Caine 45 (with 1 win)
LMP
Three mains of 9 - 7 - 7 were run for the 23 entries.
C Main
Solid win for Locky from Chuck and Grant for this one.
B Main
Qld Mick proves there is a lot of speed left in the tank by beating son Jack followed by Daryl.
A Main
This was an awesome main with Caine, Cody and Ken fighting it out and all having the lead at some stage to finish within two laps of each other at the finish. Check out the race sheet!!
Should have put this on all his cars!
GTP
Seventeen entries so 5 - 6 - 6 for this one.
Trophy is going down to the wire with Caine needing to win this one as Cody is sitting on 2 wins and a second whilst Caine is on 2 wins and a 4th.
C Main
Chuck and Chris had a good battle and were wqell clear of 3rd place James who just edged out Rodney.
B Main
Qld Mick had a good run to take out Ryan followed by Denzel whilst the rest of the field had issues.
A Main
Cody was absolutely imperious in his victory here and was just untouchable for speed and precision driving ultimately winning by 11 laps over Caine who headed off Jack by a further 2 laps.
This was the biggest margin over the whole event by far.
So three wins for Cody followed by Caine with 2 wins and a 2nd.
All Results
Winners are Grinners
Summary
Another great Seagulls' event and a big thanks to Kim and all the guys that pitch in to make this event possible and also to the many racers who travel to join the fray.
Some excellent racing and some close results but Cody most def iced it over the 3 days - congratulations to him.
