Round 5 SRC Luddenham

Post by Kenny »

Aussie Retro.
The Ferret has been roused from his slumber and made it out to Luddenham for round 5 of the S.R.C which saw a return to SSME at Luddenham and in what was a real credit to him , the track was in spectacular fettle as Ron had spent half the day cleaning it spotlessly for the nights racing . The Ferret was treated to some really first class slot car racing . In a high tension maximum pressure knock em down drag em out bareknuckle fight it was eventually Kenny who came out on top by the barest of margins . He was heard to say after the race just how much he appreciated winning and how hard he had to work for it stating that it means so much more to win by such a narrow margin than by a handful of laps and being pushed so hard for so long . All the first five showed incredibale concentration and disciplined 10 / 10ths driving . This race could easily have gone to any of the top 5 finishers . For the last 5 brackets the race predictor separated 1st and 2nd by 0.1 of a lap alternating from driver to driver . Ron stated he had never seen so many people reading the screen so intently between each bracket . Special mentions go to Wayne Walker , Troy B and Gregg T as they were up against 2 guys who race on this track every Friday night . Fastest lap of 4,477 went to Troy B on Blue closely followed by Wayne W with a 4,488 also on Blue . Poor Caseys motor laid over very early in the race and he was easy game down the straights for everyone . One of the best retro races I have ever seen and it must be said Mark and Darryl were sadly missed .

1st Kenny 225 laps
2nd Wayne W 224 laps
3rd Jason Mc 224 laps

4th Troy B 223 laps
5th Gregg T 222 laps
6th Andrew B 219 laps
7th Wayne B 214 laps
8th CaseyC 208 laps
9th PeterT 115 laps

GT1.
In a clinical display of fast smooth controlled driving Andrew Baxter was in a class of his own and streeted the field for what turned out to be an easy win and set a new lap record of 3.622 along the way and was routinely in the 3.7’s whereas no one else got below 3.8’s . If and when his lead was under threat he simply effortlessly picked up the pace at will and drove away from the rest of the field . He was simply in a class of his own , that said though he was gallantly pushed all the way by Troy B but always had something in reserve for him . Jason Mc drove a cool headed calculated race to third but was simply out paced by Andrew and Troy . In the other heat Kenny won also taking fourth overall but all the action was definitely in the other heat . Again poor Casey had nothing but bad luck with what was a fast car . If it was not for bad luck Casey would have had no luck at all on the night .

1st Andrew B 271 laps
2nd Troy B 267 laps
3rd Jason Mc 257 laps

4th Kenny 253 laps
5th Wayne W 247 laps
6th Wayne B 247 laps
7th Casey 238 laps
8th Gregg T 219 laps
9th Peter 208 laps
10th Gregg E 203 laps

So in summary one close finish and one rout was the story of round 5 . A big thank you to Toni for cooking us up some primo tucker , I love Toni , she is like our den mother and a really really really sweet person . She invokes warm memories of Daphne toasting us all hot cross buns at the Geoghegan or was it the Matich held at Easter time at G&D ? all those years ago . On behalf of Ron and all at SSME a big thank you to all who showed up to race .

The Ferret .

Hey Kenny,.. Great report !!
Thanks for doing that,.. much appreciated !!

Am somewhat annoyed that I wasn't feeling well enough to attend this last round, as obviously, the Racing on the night was quite extraordinary !!

Such Close racing overall but especially in Retro's, So Close !!,.... Great Stuff !!

Plus a Truly awesome Time by Andrew in GT-1's
His previous 3.817 was pretty damn quick,.. but 3.622, is Amazing !!,.. Well done.

Hi Guys

That would have to of been the most intense Retro car ever, and with race being a all in with 3 byes it was a bit of strategy as well.
As i picked having two byes then run six lanes and a bye at the end.I never looked at the predictor during the race.Well done to all racers as I found it to be fast and clean and good fun.
Gt1 was another story with the super fast sub 4 second cars of the top four mind blowing just heaps of work to catch them.
And thanks to Ron for a great track and Toni for the tasty food. For the guys not turning up you are missing a great night of fun and racing.

And thanks Kenny for the great race report

You know,... having looked at the Race 'Pics' in this 'thread' again,.. I couldn't Help but Notice Troy's GT-1 ??*&%$?? body !!??

A somewhat Serious 'Stretch of the Imagination' to 'Define' That Body as a GT-1 !!!,.. especially as it would seemingly be the Very Same TI-22 body used on his Retro CanAm car !!??,... Including Rear 'spoiler' !!??

I Must say,.. I AM intrigued,.. to say the least !!
