Race Report - SRC 2018 Round 2 HSC

Post by Mark Fox »

Hi All,

Well the 2nd round of the 2018 SRC was at HSC and attracted a good field of 14 racers to do battle on the Big Track with GT1’s and the Short Track with CanAm.

Fourteen entries was a great turn-out following the 1st round with 12 entries so we were all looking for some good racing.

Stoo took off fast and led for the first couple of brackets until being overhauled by Andrew (my car is so slow) Baxter who then dominated the proceedings to easily take out this race.

Stoo and I battled it out for the minor podium and were equal in laps for the last 6 brackets but Stoo prevailed by a lap in the end.

Wayne B held down 4th all the way whilst Ron G, Shalin and Stephan all had a taste of the spoon with Shalin just pipping Stephan by a lap to gift him the spoon in the last bracket.

A good run by Shalin who hit trouble on Yellow to only rack up 7 laps.

All the way win for Troy chased hard by Gregg who more or less held on by a lap until the last 2 brackets when Troy pulled away to win by 3 laps.

Wayne W had a great drive to take out 3rd and he improves with every outing so is definitely one to watch. Also Casey was very fast setting quick times on 6 of the lanes followed a lap back by Darryl then Neil. Richard had no luck following his win in the 1st round at SSME.

All the way win for me with Stoo close behind followed by Wayne W who drove a great race considering the limited exposure he has had on this track.

Ron G was not far behind Wayne W holding down 4th from the 2nd bracket on and then there was a bit of a gap to Stevo, Wayne B and Shalin on his first venture on this very tricky track.

This was the race to be in.

Darryl, Troy and Gregg were never more than 2 laps apart after the 2nd bracket and slugged it out all the way to all be on the same lap (150 - as was I in the 1st race) at the end of the 7th bracket.

I knew that with the three of them competing against each other they would probably drive past my final total and they did. Darryl did a great 24 laps on green to seal the deal and take out the win a lap up on Troy and Gregg.

Neil, Casey and Richard had their own great battle to finish within 3 laps of each other while Andrew B held down the spoon.

Close finishing with the top 4 only 2 laps apart.

Times and lap totals way down on what we had been doing a couple of months ago and I am not sure why as the track was well prepared - maybe the power is a little down as indicated by the fast laps on each lane. Generally the fast laps on say White, Green, Orange and Blue would be under 5.1 secs and the lap totals have previously been high 170's or low 180's.

Thanks to all (especially James for hosting the event and the great track prep) for a great nights racing and back to SSME for Round 3 on Tuesday; June 26th.

See you there.

Thanks Mark,
Good close racing, in both classes. The SRC seems to bring out the best in everyone.
Thanks for your report
Looking forward to the Four Hour at SSME

Thanks Mark

Great report
Was another great nights racing
Was fun to come from racing Gt1 on the big track and then Retro on the small track
I placed the lead on the car as you suggested and had a run the following Friday night
and with some help from James in tuning up my controller and driver was running 5.3 on Orange.
Can not wait for the next round at HSC in July
But first a 4 hour enduro at SSME on Sunday

Bring it on

Hi Wayne

Way to go - the lead would have certainly helped and James certainly knows his way around the track - he also gets with the strength and drives cars I built as well ;)

Don't forget that the Geohegan Trophy is on the Small Track the weekend after the SSME Enduro - Saturday the 9th June if you want a run prior to July.
