Hi
The 2015 Brabham Trophy Race for F1 was held at the 'Raceway Australia' King track this past Saturday.
The 'King'
The format of the evening (for the Retros) was to be a Can Am race as a warm up followed by the F1 race for the Brabham Trophy.
Can Am
Qualifying was taken out by myself with a new lap record of 3.885 which is pretty darn quick for Retros on the King.
To the main where my car was just unstoppable as I drove a near perfect race with only one deslot and no collisions. Andrew and Darryl battled it out for the minor podium with Andrew prevailing comfortably after the fifth bracket. Brad came in a close fourth followed by Jake whilst Bob and Neil both had troubles early on.
The winning total of 344 laps was 29 laps up on second and also a new track record by nine laps.
TQ and Winner
I did not get any photos of the proceedings but here I will share with you the Can Am build I used which was made from a JK F1 Kit. I think it is just possibly the ugliest chassis I have ever made but it is really effective, easy to build and strong. FYI it comes in at 101.7 grams.
Topped off with a lovely Pink TI 22 - this one by Red Fox.
F1
I managed to top qualify with a 4.0948 just pipping Jake by 0.0222 of a sec!! Very fast and close the the lap record held by Cody at 4.04.
The Main was initially hard fought with myself and Lindsay going hammer and tongs to be on equal laps for the first three brackets with myself a a second or so ahead for the first two and Lindsay about half a car length ahead at the end of the third.
By this stage Neil was out, Brad (on fourth at this stage) was almost out and Jake had suffered a few set backs whilst Andrew had created a bit of a break from Bob and Darryl.
The fourth bracket saw me out as far as a contender as my car developed a habit of launching on the approach to the deadman from the bank on black lane and visited the floor on four or five occasions. This allowed Lindsay to skip away and Andrew to take on second position, myself in third and Bob holding fourth.
Two brackets later saw Andrew have a few demons on purple to allow me to sneak back to second driving a slightly wounded car (stuffed wheels as it eventuated) whilst by now Lindsay has us all by the b****s to finally finish 16 laps up on 335 laps which was a new record for F1.
Again just a few photos.
The TQ car
This is the car lent to me by Mr Timmy Tyler (see http://forum.ascra.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1133 for details) that I had put on an almost lead-free diet to weigh in at 102.6 grams.
Lindsay's winner.
This car also won last year at this event piloted by Cody. It was built by Tommy Flythe a US racer friend of Lindsay's.
I really love this build - strong, simple in concept and just beautifully executed - also goes like stink.
That's it for now - just a thank you to Wayne for putting on the race and a big thanks the volunteer marshals comprising Wayne (Jake's Dad), Andrew's son (name unknown), Kelly Bramble and Cody (sorry if I missed anybody).

Re: 2015 Brabham Trophy
Good write up Mark - thanks, enjoyed the run - F1's are a blast to drive.
Had a niggling issue for the first few brackets - right hand front wheel did not turn - was seized by corrosion. Felt like it was putting the brakes on in the bank, took a few lane changes to get it working - slack preparation - you would think someone (me) would check that all 4 wheels turned prior to the race.
Car came alive when it was fixed.
PS Grp F - the race after was also a good event, those guys have got those cars working well.
