Hi All,
A great bunch of mates and fellow slot racing tragics from the old HSC cohort and various raceways including ShowUsYaSlots and Penrith Raceway convened at Windsor Slot Cars on Australia Day to participate in the ADM.
A great shout out to Ron for setting up this Club and for the amount of work he has done in getting the track and venue 'race ready' for this event which is the first of hopefully many events.
The Track looks great in it's new home with lots of pit area
This photo was taken a few weeks ago and Ron has 'tidied up' the place extensively since it was taken.
For those unfamiliar with my reporting I use a Pink highlight to indicate the fastest lap in each race and a Yellow highlight to indicate the remaining fastest laps on each lane.
Plafit 124 Historics
First race was for a small field of these cars which are a true delight to drive - if you don't have one do yourself a favour and get one - they are raced a lot up at Seagulls where I first got one (somewhat reluctantly I must say) and I have progressed to love these little goers.
By running this race first we got the track in great condition for the days' bigger events.
Retro CanAm
Lots of entries for this race (15) - great to see chassis from USA (Hanson & JJ, Japan (Akitani) and a whole host of local builders driving their own or chassis by OZ Products and Fox.
Qualifying
Fast and furious competition here with the top 6 positions within 0.010 secs of each other - nobody broke the 5 sec mark however as it was a really hot day and the traction was just a little lacking for really fast times. Dave Fitz had TQ by about 2/1000s sec over me
Heat 1
Mike shot off to the lead in 1st bracket but then had to contend with Purple and Black whilst a great battle between Rod and Ando then ensued.
Neil kept them honest and after starting on Black worked up to 2nd place by the end of the 7th bracket but then had to go to Black and hand over 2nd to Ando.
Brad worked his way up to 4th only 1 lap back after starting on Purple and Black to be followed by Mike, Anthony (who popped his head up in 3rd in the second bracket) and Bob D (who has started to race again after about a 40 year lay-off - welcome back 'Rocket')
Heat 2
Wayne shot off for a good start to lead the first 2 brackets followed by myself and Graeme then Darryl, Caine, Charles, Aaron and Dave. The race then started to unfold as the guys on the fast lanes started to move through the not so fast lanes and vice-versa.
Bracket three had Graeme in the lead followed by Charles and Darryl and it more or less stayed like that until the 5th bracket. By this stage Graeme slid to 3rd on Purple and continued the death slide on the slow end of the track to finish 6th, Darryl fought hard to finish in 4th just 1 lap ahead of Graeme and 2 laps behind TQ Dave who had worked back from starting on Purple to finish just 1 lap behind Wayne in 3rd. At the sixth bracket Charles was top dog with me adrift by 3 laps which remained the case until the final bracket when Charles was on Black and I on Green - 3 laps is a lot and I would need a perfect run to get Charles whilst any errors by him would help get me there - I had the perfect run with 36 laps whilst Charles made no errors and had a great run on Black to win by a lap.
Great racing all around and mention of Aaron And Caine who drove this difficult track very well with some excellent times for new-comers IMHO.
Charles managed to sneak a lap under 5 sec with a 4.999 sec run on Green
Limited Sedans
Qualifying
I just pipped Wayne for TQ a fair way ahead of the field.
Heat 1
Graeme followed his hot Retro form by leading all the way in this to win by 20 laps - Bravo
In the meantime most of the field had a mixed bag of results with the positions fluctuating depending on the lane draw. Neil managed to hold down 2nd or 3rd for the entire race to finish a good 2nd over Anthony who worked his way from 6th having started on Black. Rod finished a lap behind in 4th after holding 2nd until going onto Black in the 7th. Mike started on Blue for 2nd and then did the slide on Purple and Black to finish behInd Rod in 5th followed by Ando and Brad.
Heat 2
This was an epic race with 2 laps separating the eventual podium places.
Starting off was Wayne leading for three brackets with Dave, Aaron, Caine and myself swapping around 2nd and third. Dave then lead the 4th followed by Caine and Aaron whilst Wayne and I recovered from Purple and Black.
Dave then leads right through to the start of the last bracket by which time myself and Wayne have position ourselves in 2nd and 3rd whilst waiting to see what Dave has to offer on Black. A good run by Dave saw him almost hold me off but I managed to get the job done by a lap with Wayne coming in 3rd a lap back on Dave and Darryl only a further 2 laps behind for 4th.
Again very good runs by the SUYS gang - Purple and Black is the go-to lanes for practice when you are next down - don't worry it only takes a couple of years to start to get it
Porsche Cup
Last race of the day - with the SUYS guys having headed off to their club night racing we had a bit of a break and then off we went again.
This is a pictorial report only as I am sick of typing with my one( occasionally two) fingers.
Heat 1
Heat 2
Well that was it - a great day on a favorite track now back to play on - thanks to everybody that came to play - Thanks Ron for the Playground.

I am very happy that our band of brothers from SUYS finally got to experience that famous track. After all my stories and ramblings over the past few years they now understand what I was talking about.Anyhow it's great to see the thing operating again and I hope you all had a great time while I was here coughing and sneezing and sucking up mucus by the gallon.Looking forward to setting things right in the future.....BRAD
Re: ADM (Australia Day Mash) 2024
That is very graphic Brad and a real shame you couldn't make it - I for one was looking forward to catching up.
It was a great turn-out from SUYS and hopefully we will see you at the next BIG ONE at Windsor.
Cheers
