Virtual Slot Car Racing
Virtual Slot Car Racing
Hey guys, whilst watching a few of the various forms of 'Real World' racing Series, that have Gone Digital / Virtual, with the current 'Situation', such as the Moto GP, iRacing Indy car Series, Rfactor Legends Series and the iRacing V8Supercars series etc, I seemed to recall, some talk of a Slot racing 'Sim' someyears back, when chatting with some of my Euro Sim racing friends a few years ago, but never did anything about it, as it was (at that stage), merely an Idea,...... BUT,..... Amazingly,.. Someone HAS actually Created a Slot car racing SIM !!!!

There is also a forum, hosted on 'Steam',..

There is also quite a bit of Info' on the Download 'link', see below;
https://pragames.itch.io/virtual-slotcars-demo
Whilst the cars are Based More on what could be described as 1/32 style cars,.. there IS an Amazing Variety and selection of car Types and Accesories, like Tyres, Gears etc, etc and the Actual Track Designer, is actually retty Damn Good and it would Not be hard at all to 'Build / Replicate' almost any Known or Fantasy Design, with from 2 to 8 lanes.
On Line 'Play' is possible, with up to 8 Entrants (like an On Line SIM), and there is also a Solo Player type mode with AI cars.
Obviously, if one could Incorporate your Normal Hand Controllers, it would be Awesome, but there is No 'Hardware' for that available as far as I am aware. It uses a 'Typical' Game-Pad type of Controller.
Perhaps some kind of 'Interface' could be Created to allow a hand Control to be plugged in to a USB port ???
Might help make Slotting in Some form Still 'Accessible' during this Virus Lock-Down !!,..
NB: Hey I just noticed I am not alone with My thoughts about 'Virtual Racing', as someone else over on SlotBlog had also thought the same after watching the iRacing Indy Car Series.

Wow
A controller interface is essential for me as I have never had any interest in gaming.

Re: Virtual Slot Car Racing
Well, after finding my old Logitech Game Pad, I downloaded the 'Demo' version of "VSC", only to find it is 'designed' to use the Microsoft XBox 360 Game Pads, which actually incorporate some Analogue 'Triggers' on the front corners, (which would allow you to use your forefinger) but, the car can also be driven using 3 x buttons on the Keyboard !!, which have different Standard Speeds, (The Faster, overriding the Slower), which means you can easily adjust your speed, using a few fingers, simply by removing a finger or two
There Are adjustments + & - for the Slower Speeds and Also the Rate of Brake etc, but with the Standard 'Kyalami' track in the Demo, found I could drive easily with the Middle Speed and fatsest speed buttons.
Have had a bit of a Play and it is surprisingly addictive,.. sort of,.. lol
There is muic, which thankfuly you Can turn off and if you let the opponent have Free choices in car and options And you beat them, you score More points and can open up / buy more options for your own car.
I had a quick try at designing an HSC Flat Track, and did Get Close, but would have to have a few goes at setting the various Lengths and curves etc, as I 'Missed it by That Much' in getting it to Join-Up,.. but hey I didn't spend much time trying,.. lol
Perhaps, with an appropriate Adapter and connector, one could Add a 'modification' to the Xbox controller, that could let you replace / switch between the Xbox Analogue 'trigger' and a Real controller ?? (not sure about that ofcourse), but hey Xbox 360 controllers Ca be bought off ebay for under $20.00
anyway, just thought I would follow up on the whole VSC thing in case anyone is vaguely interested !!?? lol
Might make a vid of some racing and post it here later
Cheers

Re: Virtual Slot Car Racing
hmmm tried making a video with OBS, and it captures the screen and start of the race and track, but no cars and no race strangely,.. yet it did show the podium ???
Might be a 'demo' thing, or some weird setting 'conflict I have happening on the Laptop, between ObS and the Game.
If I manage to 'capture a race, I will post a 'link' here
cheers

Re: Virtual Slot Car Racing
From games with car racing, I enjoyed only Need for speed and Forza, when you played them you felt like you were racing for real, and much more with a good steering wheel controller. Then started to play Rocked League with a gamepad and I liked it a lot, I have more than 2000 hours in this game on Steam, and when just started to play, started to Buy rocket league items that now cost more than I paid. So playing games was like a little win to me. I still play when I have free time from university.
