Hi All
The final round of the SRC Series was held Tuewsday 20th November at HSC.
The point score as at the end of Round 7 showed a few contenders however some of these ( highlighted) did not show.
GT1
GT1 attracted 10 entries even with the SSME boys not making the trek and also regulars Casey, Shalin, Neil and Greg T not attending – a good field in the circumstances.
Race 1
It was a race long battle for the podium with the Clarke brothers battling all the way for the top 2 spots before Adam just edged out Michael by a lap in the last bracket. These guys were on the same lap for 3 of the final 4 brackets and never more than a lap apart in the whole race!
Similarly with Brad and John who contesting 3rd spot as although John led from the 2nd bracket Brad was never more than 3 laps behind and ultimately finished only 2 laps down.
Ben (Benno) was hanging in there until forced out in the 7th bracket.
Race 2
After the 1st bracket Troy just ran away with the race and although Joe and Darryl were in the mix up until the 4th bracket Troy was too strong.
Joe and Darryl kept at each other and were never more than a lap apart for the whole race but Joe prevailed in the end holding down 2nd spot from the end of the 2nd bracket.
Wayne W had a great 1st bracket on purple to be on the same lap as Troy but then was relegated to 4th where he stayed and finished only 2 laps adrift of Darryl. An average drive saw me hold down 5th for the final 7 brackets 3 laps away from Wayne.
Washup
The first 3 in the Race 2 took out the day but it was close with Darryl just pipping Adam on the Bell Lap.
Two observation here; the Clarke brothers are FAST and the new JK chassis seems to be the business.
Retro CanAm
Only 6 starters and so with a few marshals from the previous race and our super volunteer marshal – Greg Erskine - we were able to have only the one race.
Brad and got a little clear of the field early on and raced very closely the whole time. After hold a lap lead for three brackets I was headed by Brad although on the same lap at the half way mark but managed to get back to finally win by three laps over Brad.
A similar battle for the 3rd podium spot was taking place for 3rd between Troy and Darryl with Troy just taking Darryl in the final bracket on the Bell Lap.
Wayne W was always in the mix here and always lurking only a couple laps off until the 7th and 8th when he hit Purple and Black. A creditable performance on both these lanes was not enough however to take Troy and Darryl finishing on ‘good’ lanes’.
Ben had a good run and will only get better as he gets used to these cars and starts to drive his own equipment – watch this space.
End of Series Awards
The final points for the series
Trophies for the Winners
Thanks as always for James and Joe for the track prep and for HSC sponsoring the series along with SSME.
Cheers.
