Race Report - SRC 2018 Round 4 - HSC

Post by Mark Fox »

Hi All.

A great turn-out for the 4th round of the SRC Series on Tuesday 24th July at HSC with 16 entries for GT1 and 15 for Retro CanAm.

Good to see Jason Brookes back for more retro racing and the return of Wayne and Cody Bramble. Another racer I had not seen for many a year – John Little was also having a crack with the GT1’s together with the usual suspects from SSME and HSC.

So the order of the evening was – plenty of marshals – yay.

Welcome back to Cody who blitzed the field to win by 10 laps after leading all the way over Wayne Baxter who followed Cody in 2nd all the way just edging out Stoo in 3rd after a race long battle with Wayne Bramble.

Jason enjoyed his outing with his loaner (don’t know whose but maybe Gregg T’s?) to finish over the top of John Little after a bit of a tussle whilst Stevo and Ron circulated in the less pointy end of the field.

Casey always goes well on this track and tonight was no exception with an all the way win over Wayne Walker by 7 laps. Pretty close overall (apart from Casey) with 5 laps between 2nd and 6th. Darryl had a bad night expiring in the 6th bracket to take the spoon.

A really good win for Casey overall also setting fastest laps on all lanes.

Cody all the way to win with a hot total of 184 laps.

The drive of the day for mine was Jason with a loaner from Darryl to take 2nd with a great total of 179 followed by Wayne Bramble on 177.

Stevo circulated around in 4th for the whole race whilst being chased by Wayne Baxter and Shalin. Unfortunately Andrew and Ron retired hurt.

All the way win for me excepting the 1st bracket on Red where I ran into so many cars parked in the gutter it was devastating – but all good in the end.

Troy, Gregg and Darryl had a great battle to finish within 2 laps of each other 9 laps up on Wayne Baxter. Stoo had a night he would rather forget after a bad start on Orange but him behind the 8 Ball and Casey came down to earth after blitzing us all on the Big Track.

Washup

Cody was on fire on the super well prepped track and threw down the gauntlet to Retro Drivers.

The 4 Hour Enduro 2 Sundays previous had his finger well-tuned and he set the fastest laps on all lanes and thus emulated Casey on the Big Track.

I had a bit of a rough time but managed to edge out Jason for 2nd who pipped Troy for 3rd. Only 4 laps between 2nd and 7th shows how close the racing was – behind Cody.

Many Thanks again to James who as usual had the tracks in top notch condition for the night.

Thanks once again for your reports Mark.
Makes me even sorrier that I missed it.
Unbelievable lap totals in both races! Congrats to the winners.
To answer Greg -
They are all JK’s
Wayne, Casey and Cody all ran Aeolus. They are proving to be very handy, including mine, after Casey tuned the front for me.
Stoo has a X25
Gregg’s is a X25 with a lightweight centre
Beau Jangles has a X25 as well but the ‘skin’ makes it difficult to tell if it is standard or lightweight. I am thinking it’s a standard, as Wayne has always said that weight is your friend at HSC. Good to see a mix of chassis and front wheels.
Which one are you thinking of running Greg?
The offer of a loaner still stands.

Oops .....
Had another look at the pics. My apologies to Wayne Baxter. The photo shows his sled and well placed Second in the heat, not Wayne Bramble.
Too many Wayne’s ......

Thanks Neil,

I am preparing a standard X24, same a John Little's. Should be good enough to learn how to drive again.

I did note that the X24 is longer than the Aeolos. Has anyone measured the guide to rear axle lengths of the other chassis?

How different is the X25 to the X24? I can see the guide holder is different.

I did accidently weigh some of the GT1's at the last race, all different!

Hi Greg
I was thinking x24 but my fingers were typing 25.
The chassis that you measured -
Different chassis?
Body thickness?
Who was lightest?
Did you use James Scale?
Stop spying and start building!

Hi Neil,

I think the main difference was if the GT1 had front wheels or not! I am not sure who's car was what.

It was James scales.

I have started my GT1.
