Hi All,
The 2nd and final round of the NSW Retro Titles was held last night; Saturday 25th November.
A few of the regulars including Stoo and Neil could not make it so it was a small field to battle it out on the fast and furious HHSC Hill Climb (aka ‘The Big Track’)
First up was CanAm to be followed by F1.
CanAm Qualifying
Casey smacked us down with a 5.647 and proved it was no fluke by backing up with a 5.656 and a 5.663 closely followed by Joe on 5.682.
CanAm Race
Darryl led the 1st bracket with Casey and I following but all on the same lap. Joe hit early trouble with his guide nut coming off and that unfortunately was it for his podium hopes. Wayne was 2 laps adrift at this stage with his first outing on this track with a retro CanAm.
The 2nd bracket saw me take the lead with Casey 2nd followed by Darryl, Wayne and Joe.
The 3rd bracket and Casey and I had opened the gap a little on the remainder while Wayne hit 3rd.
By the 4th there were two actions going; Casey and I were battling it out for 1st while Wayne and Darryl were knocking each other about for the final podium spot. Joe kept circulating for the love of it as his 1st bracket mishap saw him off as a contender.
Going into the 7th I was 2 laps up on Casey but finishing on White and Red whilst Casey had Green and Blue – showtime Darryl and Wayne were still mixing it with Darryl a lap up now.
Casey clawed a lap back to leave me a lap and a half up while Wayne regains 3rd as Darryl faltered on Purple.
The final bracket was a blinder as I, Casey and Darryl all hit 31 laps to finish in that order with Wayne a mere lap off Darryl for 4th – a fantastic drive for a first outing and also a great effort by Casey who; whilst relatively new to this class; can drive this track with his eyes closed I suspect.
Casey set fast times on all lanes except for me on Red where I was fighting for my life.
F1 Qualifying
I managed to regain my TQ crown here with a 5.845 well clear of Casey on 5.941 who was closely followed by Joe with 5.983.
F1 Race
We were joined by Stephan for this one who (unusually for him ) had arrived too late for CanAm or to qualify for F1. Wayne was to sit this one out.
The 1st bracket had Joe leading by lap over Casey followed by myself and Darryl a further lap back.
The 2nd bracket saw Casey out with a big hit on the bridge (by his car unfortunately) which saw his chassis centre weight come adrift and his car became un-drivable – off for repairs. Darryl had an ordinary run on White to allow me into 2nd on the same lap as Joe.
Casey was back with a vengeance in the 3rd and then on proceeded to set the fastest lap time for each of the remaining lanes he drove on! More on this later. Joe and I were still even on laps with Joe ahead whilst Darryl was hang on 3 laps down – anything can happen on this track.
Over the remaining 5 brackets the order did not change however ‘Smokin' Joe pulled away from me by 3 laps at the finish whilst in my efforts to keep up saw finish 7 up on Darryl with Casey only 7 laps behind after missing virtually a whole bracket.
Now to Casey, if he had not had his mishap and say had scored 27 laps on Black – as Joe, myself and Darryl did - he would have won by 6 laps Great run.
Series Wash-up
Casey – 3rd in CanAm and F1
Darryl – 2nd in CanAm and F1
Mark – 1st in CanAm and F1
Very Special Thanks
It’s hard to race without marshals and with only 5 racers tonight we were (and have been throughout the year on many occasions) privileged to have some volunteer marshals who; even though they are not racing themselves; marshal for the tragics that are.
Thanks Greg
Thanks Allan and Cooper (Coopers Mum helps out sometimes as well!)
Even harder to race without a track and race director
Thanks James
Remember the last race in the HSC Retro Series is on Saturday, December 9th on the Big Track for Coupes and F1s - come racing before Xmas madness sets in

Re: NSW State Titles - Round 2
Great report Mark and congrats on taking out the title.
While I've missed many rounds, I'd also like to thank James for being there for us and providing the great track and facility for us to race on.
Hope I can get to a few more next year.

Hey,.. Once again, thanks for the Report and Pic's Mark.
Congrats' to yourself, Darryl and Casey, deserving Winners,.. all !!
Also, Congrats' to Joe, for a fine Win in F1's !! Great to see he is 'Back on Form' ,.. must be that Expensive controller !!
I was, (as you can perhaps imagine), rather disappointed I couldn't attend,.. will hopefully be able to get to the Dec' Round.
Nice Pic's of "Our Marshals" as well btw and I would also like to Thank them for their Generous and capable Efforts over this past season's racing.
Thanks Guys and Occasional Gals !!
Sincere thanks Also as well to James for supporting this Happy little Band of Retro racers over the years.
It IS Greatly 'Appreciated' by ALL and is somewhat of a shame that he hasn't been (able / up-to) Racing with us of more recent times
