New CanAm Build from a JK Kit

Post by Mark Fox »

Hi All

I started building this some some ago and intended its use for the King track. However as this now will not be I lengthened the overall wheel-base and completed the build with a hope that it will go well on HSC Big Track.

The build is similar in concept to http://forum.ascra.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1088 which is a great chassis having TQed and won races on the King, HSC Big Track and HSC Flat Track (with 20 grams of lead added).

The build is based on a JK Kit Plate and here she is: -

Now to test and hopefully be amazed and not have to 'chain it to the fence' as per Neil's suggestion.

WOW,
Mark another great build. Thanks for sharing once again. With so much quality dremel work, it is hard to call it a kit build.
For the final round of the state titles, I am going to try a chassis that worked well at the last retro meet at Raceworld, with just a little bit of extra weight, maybe it will work on the Big Track.
So ......... Hopefully ....... it might be a dog catcher!!
Cheers
Neil

Thanks Neil
I have been using the same car at HSC Big Track as at Raceworld no problem - you will probably find the same - good luck with it.

Hi Mark. What size gears are those you use for jig wheels?I have trouble sometimes getting that bit right. Thanks Brad.

Hi Brad - they are 32T Cobra gears (48 pitch) which are about 710 thou in diameter - they are not always perfectly concentric (by a few thou) to the axle hole but are well good enough for our purpose here.

They need to be sleeved and I use a long sleeve so I can use one end of the sleeve to hold in a set of bearings in the bracket and still get the Jig wheels (gears) out wide on the axle.

I solder the bearings in last (after the whole chassis is complete including the front wheel set-up) as then if I need to I can do some fine adjustments on the height of the bearings by filing the axle hole in the bracket

I use some 3/32 piano wire for my jig axles.

Hope this was useful for you.
