HSC Retro 'Flat Track' Series R1. 7 Feb 2015

Post by Mark Fox »

Hi All
On a hot and steamy night the HSC Retro racers gathered to open the 2015 season of Retro racing.

CAN AM
Ten Racers for Can AM saw two heats as follows:-

Heat 1
Drivers L - R Peter, Thomas, Paul, Mark, and Leigh

Peter's interesting paint job is a cracker

Mark virtually lead all the way,in the 2nd bracket Paul took the lead momentarily but after that it was Mark all the way to win by a lap.
Mark 172
Paul 171
Leigh 161
Peter 148
Thomas 138

Great to see young Thomas join the fray as he lowered the average age of our heat by about a decade I reckon and gave a good account of himself against a very seasoned group.

Heat 2
Drivers L - R
Stoo, Bill, Neil, Justin and Darryl

It was a fast start from Justin but by the end of the 3rd bracket Darryl had the race and lead all the way to take it out by a lap
Darryl 175
Justin 174
Stoo 168
Bill 154
Neil 130

The overall placing ended up as

Darryl 175
Justin 174
Mark 172
Paul 171
Stoo 168
Leigh 161
Bill 154
Peter 148
Thomas 138
Neil 130

Mark set fastest lap of 5.023 on green :P

F1
Now 10 racers for F1 saw two Heats as follows

Heat 1
Drivers L - R
Stoo, Paul, Mark, Leigh and Justin
20-IMG_9321.JPG
20-IMG_9321.JPG (110.31 KiB) Viewed 5824 times
Cars L-R
Justin, Leigh, Mark, Paul and Stoo
19-IMG_9320.JPG
19-IMG_9320.JPG (131.26 KiB) Viewed 5824 times
This was a Justin rout except for Stoo who took the lead in the 7th only to have some mechanical problems in the 8th to allow Justin to prevail. Leigh drove a very steady race and was second all the way except for Stoo's ill fated charge in the later brackets.

Overall placings went: -
Justin 172
Leigh 169
Stoo 169
Paul 169
Mark 164

Heat 2
Racers L - R
Peter, Bill, Neil, Darryl and Josh
22-IMG_9324.JPG

Cars L - R
Josh, Bill, Neil, Darryl and Josh
21-IMG_9323.JPG
21-IMG_9323.JPG (131.38 KiB) Viewed 5824 times
Darryl led all the way with Josh following whilst Bill and Neil scrapped for the last podium spot after Peter pulled out after a pile of mechanical issues finished his day.
The two heats were well separated however as all Heat 1 placings prevailed over the 2nd Heat as follows: -

Justin 172
Leigh 169
Stoo 169
Paul 169
Mark 164
Darryl 162
Josh 160
Bill 155
Neil 145
Peter 81

Paul set fastest lap of 5.184 on Red!!!

Good to see Bill on the end of a controller again, we are all hoping that this will distract him enough to not make such bullet cars for Paul - but I don't think so somehow.

Winners are grinners: -

OK that's it for now.

HEY,..thanks for the report Mark.
By the time I got around to thinking I should write the Report,...it had Already been done !!,.. :)

Looking at the Lap charts,..if I had not had that strange 'Wall-Shot' on the Re-Start of the 5th bracket, (requiring me to fix the 'pans'), we might have had an interesting Top 5, ALL separated by 1 lap !!

Strangely, I seem to be having a rather annoying period of silly problems with my cars,..sigh,...
Upon Close inspection of the CanAm car after the race, I discovered that one of my Rear tyres, had almost completely become Separated from the Hub !!
Which may account for the rather odd, slight lack of Traction I had been experiencing with this car,.. :(
Have also made a "Note to Self", regarding the Force required to tighten the Grub Screw in the Koford Crown Gears !!!,..Doh !!

Thanks for the Easy 'Pass' in F1 as well Justin,... I was also Not aware it was for the Lead !!,,.. :)
Not that it did Me any good in the end,.. :(

As Mark also commented,..it was really good to see young Thomas do so well, with these rather fast cars on what Is a tricky track against some formidable competition. one imagines he will only get Better with more racing,.. Well done !!

Somewhat of a 'Freak' outcome with Neil's car !!,... but Hey,..looking at the Pic,.. I think I would give some Serious consideration to replacing the Front Wheel/Tyres during the Repair !!, as they certainly look like they have seen better days.

Once again,.. some Very 'Hot' Racing, apart from Just the Weather !!

Thanks Mark and Stoo
Yes it was a bit strange. I didn't even hit a wall! It must have been the marshall !
Yes Stoo us old wing car guys don't think about front tyres much, so guilty as charged.
