Some thoughts -

Post by lindsayb »

Just some thoughts for people to consider - please give feedback on what you think

1. Sunset 27's after the Nats - 27 lights seems to be working well
2. Ban large hub wheels - max 500 dia rims - Russell spoke about this at the NATS and I think it is a good idea - gets back to less expensive tyres - This is what they use in Buena Park - both Koford and Alpha have suitable products.
3. I15's we don't race them often and struggle to get fields - they are also struggling in the U.S - should we sunset them.
4. As we have now gone to spray - should we ban speed rubber for qualifying - not a big advantage and not sure we need the cost of these tyres (also consistent with 500 dia rims)
5. If we loose 15's it would be good to have an entry level class with a sealed motor and box 12 chassis. - maybe have a driver exclusion list of who can enter (F2000 maintained a list of non entry level drivers so this could work) - don't know what motor to use so will put this out to the brains trust.

Just my 2 cents worth but i agree with everything Lindsay said . IMO if you are going to build multi mag motors than you may as well go all the way and go opens.
edit - well they don't make 2 cent's anymore so ,,,,,,,,

Lindsay are you going to give me the money for all the equipment that your thoughts will make redundant.

I Have quite some stock of Aluminum Chassis and multi Magnets for 27's
I won't be canning unrestricted 27 here in 2 months
what i can see is us racing both with 27 lite being a one motor only format no speed rubber in Qualifying and racing

I agree Lindsay, (although on reading the start of your post I thought we all had to run Sunset bodies)

We would get a lot more new people racing IMO, but I can sympathise with those who have spent a fortune on multi mag Grp 27 setups (just a milder open car really), that can't be used for anything else. If this got in there would have to be a long transitional period.

At the end of the day, those who can afford many multi mag setups may as well just run unlimited Open. Some people spend almost as much on Grp 27s.

If I was starting from scratch - I would include a slower (than Open) type class, with exactly the same sized set ups as Open, a shorter armature (than Grp 27) minimum length, but with say a Grp 27 type wind, so that armatures can be interchanged as one moves up to a "hotter" Open class and say a steel chassis. Have never understood how we went down the path of having to have completely different setups for Grp 27, probably just evolved from the US early days when Grp 27 was supposed to be for beginners..

I just loved running 26t/26 motors with a 9 tooth pinion in the old days, fast and totally reliable.
