Slick7 Steel Wing Car Chassis

Hey guys, with the move to spray-glue it seems that steel chassis seem to be popular again. Unfortunately, not many manufacturers make them in anything except the super-short G27 light versions. I am using a longer steel Slick7 Chassis, and have had pretty good success with it so far. I think they suit our flatter tracks better than the short cars.

I have contacted Rudy Garriga of Slick7 and asked if he could do a run of them for us. He can do so, and it seems like the chassis kit will end up costing us about $75. I need to order 10 pieces minimum.

Who is interested? I'd need cash up front because there is a few hundred bux involved and I don't want to end up with a bunch of unwanted chassis. I'm not making anything out of this, but if people want them then we can get them done. If they're not wanted/needed then there's no harm, but at least the option is there.

I used a Slick 7 steel chassis to win my last Nats in 1999 at Redline (and Camen Mirage body). With steel chassis you can play with the flex and tires to get the bight you want. I won a Grp 27 Brock on KW's many years ago with a fairly long hand cut steel chassis and a Sunset Spyder body - it really handled well from memory.

When Redline finally reopens that Slick 7 chassis would be ideal as the track is similar to KW's and it will be strictly spray glue racing. I have discussed this with Chris the Thunderbird track owner, so we might contact you closer to the time when it will be ready.

The longest Koford Grp27L chassis is 4.30" so I presume these will be longer?

Hi guys, I've edited the first post to keep a list of who wants them. Once I get to 10 I'll make the order.

The chassis is 117mm (4.6") which is the same as the Alpha Steel Chassis (no longer available) and was the standard length until the shift towards the short cars in the mid 2000's. I'm pretty pleased with the projected price, because last time I bought one the kit was over $130! Thank God for the strong Aussie dollar.

Done! Order placed, money sent, and production scheduled. Thanks to everybody who got on board with this project.

Just to let you know the technical aspects of what we've got coming.

Chassis design: The chassis is based as closely as possible on the original Preditor XL. It is a perimeter chassis, and it is the old "standard length" of 4.600". We have stuck to the original length for a number of reasons, even though it is tempting to go shorter nowadays. As many of you know, it is also very, very similar to the famous Alpha chassis, so there are very good reasons for sticking to this length.
Thickness: It is a 0.050" chassis, as this seems to work best on spray glue. Again, it is the same as the original and also the same as the Alpha chassis.
Additional features: It includes a gear guard pillow block, which is a modern addition that is definitely worthwhile. Also, it does not have the lightening hole behind the guide mount since most of us are putting extra weight up the front anyway.

I imagine that they will be delivered in about 2 weeks time. Not a bad turnaround for a project that was only a random thought a week or so ago! Thanks once again to everyone who committed to the project so promptly.

Technical update

Rudy has just sent me an email with the design drawing. The wheelbase is quite adjustable, so those who want a shorter car can have it. It is 4.625 long with box stock Pillow Blocks (supplied), 4.595 with Gr-7 Pillow blocks and can be shortened to 4.500 or less.

Sneak into Pieman's house and steal them off an old Alpha chassis! I don't know about you, but I have a little snap lock bag full of old chassis parts, including pillow blocks. Call me frugal...
