Having now had a couple of races with my Aston Martin Div' 2 car and, Whilst Definitely a Quick car, it is also a car that can Bite! and often when you Least Expect it!
I Could persist with it, but it Does need some Repair work done on the Front 'Splitter', so I was thinking about What would make a theoretically Good Division 2 car.
Although there Are a Lot of 'possible' bodies that can be used in Div' 2, IMHO, there Aren't many of them that would make Really Good Race cars, as far as a Low C of G, Max overall Width and enough room to fit a decent guide lead length, let alone being relatively Easy to 'Make' Fit regarding how close all those 'Interior' bits are to the Chassis.
Whilst looking for something else the other day, I came across a Fly Ferrari F40 which I have had for a while now, and although 'Set Up' to race as it is, has in fact hardly Ever been run, which is a bit of a shame as it Does Go Well,..BUT,..it Is a rather Nice Body Shell and is in fact Really Light and Whilst rather Short-ish (it Does in fact require a rather short Wheelbase), but it does have an OK guide lead length capability and the 'ratio' is OK,..Well, for a Short car that is,..lol
I Have had quite good success, with My Maserati MC12 Div' 1 car, which is the antithesis of the F40, as it has a Very Long wheelbase and guide lead, But, I Have had Some success, with my 1/24th CanAm car which is Short and Whilst Longer cars Are very Quick around HSC, a Good Shorter Car Can be Very Fast,..But Does require it to Handle Well and be Driven Very Well and in a certain Way to actually Be Fast.
Anyway, Just to Have a bit of a Look See, I got it out and removed the Body and I must say it Looked as though nothing might even get 'In the Way' as such for if nothing else, a 'Trial Fit'.
As it happens, if Almost Fits perfectly Without ANY Modifications, (apart from a small amount of material which Can be removed from the Very Front of the Underside of the interior, which is Just binding slightly on the Front Suspension assembly). So with a very small amount of Grinding/cutting, it Will Fit really Well, Without the Need to Disallow it to be Re-used on the Fly chassis !!,..Which, considering one Normally invariably 'trashes' the Donor car to get All the 'Bits' required, is fairly unique and a rather agreeable outcome !!
Considering How Light, Low and Wide the car s I am hoping it Will atleast be as Good or Better than the SCX based Aston.
Apart from the Effort required to Re-build the Chassis to Suit, it Might Just be an Interesting and Hopefully Fast and 'Different' Option,..So here it is 'Sitting' on the Modded previous Aston Chassis,..just has to have some Foam Rubber attached to the Flat Mounts and She's ready to Mount.
I guess, this Could be My Next Div' 2 Ride !!,..
My NEW Div' 2 1/32 Modern GT car,..Well,..Maybe !??,..

Hey Geoff,...Paul,...
Would you believe I have Yet to actually Test it?,..in fact have Yet to even finish Building it!
Because the Wheelbase is So short, I have to 'Revert' to the Standard Base Plate, (I had the 10mm longer one on the Aston), to allow the Guide Free movement.
Hope to do it over the Xmas break and will try it in the New Year.
It's a Great Looking Model though, with Nice Detailing.
Will 'post' details of its Performance as soon as I have tried it.
Glad you Liked it Geoff !!,..
Might make a Good choice for your Own Div' 2 Meccano Car !!,..
Just Need to find some 'appropriate' artwork/Numbers etc to make up some Decals.
Cheers Guys,..

Re: My NEW Div' 2 1/32 Modern GT car,..Well,..Maybe !??,..
Well,..it took me a while longer than I had initially thought to have finished this car,..BUT,...I HAVE to say, it was NOT due to ANY Mounting or Setup 'Issues' with the Body/chassis Combo, ...merely My Slackness,..
I Say this,..because Without a Shadow of a Doubt,..this Was Easily THE Easiest Body I have ever 'Mounted' !!! AND,..Amazingly ALSO Requires NO 'Modification' from Standard to Fit Perfectly. PLUS, the Standard Fly Chassis remains untouched, so the Body IS arguably still 'Available' to be 'Re-Mounted' on it's Original Fly Chassis.
Realistically, Most of the Body Mounting 'Time', was in 'Messing' with the Chassis Wheel Base Length, to Get the right 'Balance/Look' of the Wheels within the Wheel housings,..you know,..so it "Sat Right",..:D
Had to base this one on the Std' length Bottom Plate, but am using 8mm 'Flat Plates', allowing the Body to Fit 'virtually' Perfectly.
I have Yet to 'Test' it, but can Only Hope it Goes as well and as Easily as it 'Went together'.
The Body IS a Bit fragile, but seems to be 'Tweakable' and Flexible,..So If Driven 'Properly' doing one's Best to Avoid Accidents,..!!,...
Should be OK,..I Hope.
It 'Feels' "Right" when sitting in my Hand, if you Know what I mean,..the 'Balance of it seems 'familiar' !,..lol
Anyway,..just a Few more pics,..(For Geoff!!,..lol),...
Will Report back concerning its Performance 'On Track'
Cheers

Re: My NEW Div' 2 1/32 Modern GT car,..Well,..Maybe !??,..
Hi guys,
As it has been a 'While', since I initially started this thread/car project,..so in reference to;
With my knowledge of this cars recent past, (it previously being my Last Div' 2 car, based on an SCX Aston DB9 body), which Was a Pretty good Div' 2 Aston and Was on the 'Pace',...BUT,..it Was Also a bit 'tricky' to drive Hard,...and could easily 'Bite', when one Least Expected it and was Not 'On the Pace' of the Decent Div 1 cars,..(My Own Div i Maserati MC12 was Faster).
Now,..Rebuilt to suit this arguably 'Charming' and Nicely Detailed F40,..it is,..Somewhat Extraordinary !!!,..
It required a little bit of 'testing/tuning',..but realistically, I Haven't spent Hours and Hours on it,..just a bit of Added Lead re-arrangement!!,.. , See Pic below.
I ran the car in last Nights HSc Plafit round, (being the First Plafit Round this Year), and whilst the Numbers were VERY Low, atleast Troy was there with his particularly Fast Mosler and Jakes Div 1 McLaren ain't No Slug either, so it Was a reasonable 'Reference' of its possible Race Performance.
The car,..quite simply is amazingly and somewhat surprisingly Extremely Fast !!!
Being rather Short, it Does require Driving accordingly, making sure the car remains Stable and aiming for Very Tidy corner Exits !!,..lol and When Driven well this way, rewarded one with Great Speed and Lap times.
It is without a doubt an arguably 'Awesome' Div' 2 car, as it is Virtually 'On the Pace' of a Good Div' 1 car !!
It was regularly turning 6.5, 6.4 and the occasional 6.3 second laps in the Race, which is really Impressive around HSC for a Div'2 car,..they are good times for a Div' 1 car !!, as average Div'2 times around HSC, would usually be in the 6.5 to 6.7 range.
the car is also extremely Easy TO Drive Fast and 'Push' it !! It is Surprisingly Forgiving !!
I Would say though (having Now given it a Good 'Run'), that I could Reduce the Amount of 'Free Play' / Movemet of the Body. Being such a Light and Short Body I think it Could be Smoother with Less overall Movement.
Troy and I had some fantastic 'Dicing' and whilst Realistically, his Fastest lap times were consistently a few 100ths and 1,000ths quicker, there wasn't Much in it and we were driving Hard enough to Make Mistakes and De-Slot!!,.. Troy seeming to 'Fall Off' a few more times than myself, which made the Race Very close,..in Fact we Both finished on the Same Lap !!,..800ths Apart across the Line !!
Normally I Would Have been Quicker coming onto the straight (as it had proven throughout the last bracket),..but I ;Fluffed' the 2nd last corner and faltered, which let him 'Pip' me 'On the Line' !!,..
Would have been Fantastic if This New Div' 2 car had Won it's first race Outright!!
The fact that it Was so close is rather Encouraging,..!!!,...
I'm Jazzed,...
Cheers
