HSC Aussie Retro Coupe & F1 Rnd 8 2010

Post by stoo23 »

This was a bit of a strange week and race weekend for myself, as along with trying to finish a New F1 chassis for Troy, complicated by Not being in Sydney much, due to family members being in Hospital etc,..I had also decided to have a run in the Spray Goo G27 races, so it was a rather hectic evening for myself.

I was relatively happy with how the G27 went, especially when one considers the Motor I used I had actually assembled over 20 years ago!!

Not so Happy with the New F1 chassis though,..I had made a Virtual Exact copy of my other recent chassis, with Only very subtle differences, but, as is often the case, No Two chassis are ever Really Identical.

I had fitted a Brand new motor and in some ways that was also a bit of a disappointment, as it certainly was VERY Average, performance wise,..well, Especially when compared to My Other F1's performance.

I think as was also noted by Cody, the Wing Cars kinda threw Our driving out a bit,..rofl,..it sure took me a few brackets to get Back into 'Retro' Mode !!,..lol

We had all the 'Usual Suspects',..with once again a few Less regular Faces having a run tonight,..in Fact One very Welcome but less regular attendee, was Geoff Little, who came up to have a run in Both Retro and Wing car races.

Geoff, being a bit of a Ferrari Fan, had come with his Very Nice CanAm Ferrari and was Quite Pleased I think, when presented/offered My Older F1 to run,..also sporting a somewhat 'Proper' looking Ferrari Body.

We had 10 starters for CanAm/Coupe and 9 for F1, so ran 2 Heats in Both Classes.

Coupe Heat 1;
In this race we had Geoff, Morkuz, Jacco, Brad and Myself.

This was a pretty enjoyable race, containing all the usual Friendly cameraderie often exhibited in our Retro racing.
Jacco and I had a few coming togethers,..Both running Chevrons, Mine seemed at times to have a slight Magnetic attraction to Jaccos'!!,..Sorry Jacco :)

Whilst perhaps the first Two placings were solidly filled by Geoff and Myself, there was quite a few position changes amongst the others, with Morkuz, Brad and Jacco changing places over the course of the Race. Jacco unfortunately dropping from 3rd to 5th in the Last Bracket,..(which May have had something to do with Our coming together,..so Once again,...sorry Jacco!).

The outcome being;

1st Stoo 171 laps
2nd Geoff 163 laps
3rd Morkuz 153 laps

4th Brad 152 laps
5th Jacco 152 laps

Whilst that Lap total looked OK,..it was to Pale into insignificance when compared to the Following Heat.

Coupes Heat 2;

In this race, we had James, Dale, Mark, Troy and Charles,..certainly a competent and Very capable field.
Unfirtunately, I was 'Winging it' during this race, so did Not really get an opportunity to watch the race unfold.

It Was Very Fast and whilst everyone was swapping places,..Troy just 'sailed off' into the distance, turning some Very impressive Lap totals, with nearly every bracket being a 23, one 21 and One 24 !! Charles Must have had a quite serious problem, as he didn't make it to the end of the 2nd bracket and retired,..Bad Luck Charles! Mark, Dale and James argued over the Minor placings.

The Final Lap Totals probably Don't really spell out the closeness of the Race,..but everyone was turning Very Good laps, with the Final outcome;

1st Troy 182 laps
2nd James 178 laps
,..and being over the Moon about finishing Ahead of Mark Fox !!!,..lol
3rd Mark 175 laps
4th Dale 172 laps
5th Charles 36 laps

Overall Final Placings;
1st Troy 182 laps
2nd James 178 laps
3rd Mark 175 laps

F1's Heat 1;

In the first Heat, we had Mark, James, Troy, Brad and Jacco

Once again, a pretty closely fought battle,..especially amongst the first three, although it Must be noted, that once again, Troy managed to grab 1st in the first bracket and hold it to the end,..Just!
James and Mark battled it out for the whole event, with James once again, Rejoicing in the fact he beat Mark once again!,..lol

Brad and Jacco had arrived at their finishing positions after the first bracket, with Brad 4th and Jacco 5th. Probably Not the Most memorable of evenings for Jacco,..don't I know how that feels.
Might have to get you a New 'Proper' F1 chassis Jacco! :)

This was as would be expected, a Pretty Clean and Fast race, with the final totals being;

1st Troy 259 laps
2nd James 257 laps
3rd Mark 256 laps

4th Brad 239 laps
5th Jacco 230 laps

F1's Heat 2;

Only 4 starters in this heat, being; Cody, Geoff, Dale and Myself.
For myself, this was a race I managed to Lose Very Well !!!,..lol,..serious lack of consistency on my behalf of late,..sigh,..lol

But,..Heck,..with Cody, Geoff and Dale, this was Never going to be Easy!

Dale once again managed to Take a firm hold of 1st place right from the 'Get Go' and with his Typical driving performance, was always going to Make it Hard for the rest of us,..especially, with Cody and Myself, still a Bit Wing Speed disoriented, the three of us all swapped places race long, with Geoff seemingly to Really enjoy his First Ever Retro F1 experience, looking like he was definitely going to Keep 3rd, until I managed to Just edge ahead in the last bracket.

Final placings in this heat;
1st Dale 257 laps
2nd Cody 250 laps
3rd Stoo 242 laps

4th Geoff 240 laps

So overall F1 winners on the night were;
1st Troy 259
2nd James 257
3rd Dale 257

Once again, a Very enjoyable (and Very Mixed evenings racing for myself and the others who also raced in the Wing car classes held concurrently), friendly and Fun evening, typical of our usual Retro racing.

Will be interesting to see Just How many starters we manage to get for the upcoming Retro Nationals on this Next weekend.
Hope everyone, especially Geoff enjoyed themselves and once again, thanks to James and Wayne for putting on a thoroughly enjoyable evenings racing,..Hey Lindsay,..how come You didn't race Retro's as well ??

Must see if we can Cajole a few more Wing Car drivers to have a Go at Retro!!,..There Are Plenty of Spare, competitive 'Loaner' cars :)

See Ya all at the Nat's!!,.. :)

I will post some pics, once I am back at My PC,..Cheers :)

Thanks for the report Stoo. No apology needed for knocking me down from 3rd.
S!@t happens in these races and as long as I get to return the favour.... :twisted:

Now, what's a 'Proper' F1 chassis Stoo? (ie, would like your advice on what you see wrong with my current one?).

thanks in advance,
