Re: Hornsby Slot Cars

While the fast track at Hornsby Slot Cars is well known, the road circuit track would not be all that familiar to many but it is now the track where D3 cars are raced. The track is a Gary Johnson "golden oldie", a bit over 20 years old and still in very good condition. The track was slightly modified near the end of 2008 to improve the marshalling under the bridge and both the triangle and the esses were re-aligned which made the track a little more demanding for drivers.

The track requires a car that will both handle the sequence of short straights that make up the triangle and its exit corners and the esses at the bottom of the track with the two characteristics being reasonably different and this makes the track a lot more demanding than a simpler faster design track.

Below are some recent photos of the parts of the track that show how it is laid out.

This is the top of the track, the drivers straight is to the right and the corner at the end of the straight leads into the triangle. The track direction for D3 cars is clockwise.

This is the marshalls eye view of the underpass under the bridge. Even though the track has been re-aligned to make marshalling easier here it is still not a good place to come off as it can be difficult for a marshall to reach the car quickly.
