A huge thanks to James and the all the crew at HSC. Great Job by the Bramble clan and Peter, thanks heaps for your talent in the kitchen Kelly, I've never seen a bacon and egg roll be produced so quickly!
This was one of the best wing car races in recent memory. Why? Because Wayne as Race Director did a great job. What was great about it? The answer is simple, there were very few track calls. The marshals cleared the track quickly, the power went on as soon as the track was cleared and on the very rare occasion where a track call was granted, Wayne didn't wait around for cars to be braided or repaired. If you didn't fall off you were not penalised, if you did fall off then you paid the price. As it should be be.
The biggest benefit of this was that there was the best goodwill between racers at the end of the event than I have ever seen, everyone was happy with the outcome, the racing was far cleaner as a result of fewer track calls. It's to be hoped that this race will be remembered for what made it so enjoyable to be a competitor, the great racing conditions produced by minimising track calls. Hopefully this race direction style will catch on. Maybe there could be guidelines written so it doesn't get forgotten how to perform great race direction.
It was great to be able to chat over the weekend to the great ex-Nats winner of many occasions Peter Dight, welcome back Peter, hope to see you racing at Rocky in 2010.
Another great thing was, Johnson Systems Carbon Fibre Chassis performed very strongly and with recent development and tuning from racers these cars have improved markedly. Thanks for your hard work making these bullet-poof chassis Garry, and thanks for the loan of the Rear-end/motor in the G7 final, it was a freakin' bullet. A real blast to drive!
PS... Rumour has it that a CF car is going to make it's way to Brasil shortly in the very capable hands of Jose Mario. Lucky Jose I say. It's great to see international racers coming to our nationals, way to go Jose-Mario.
