Race Management System

Picking up on a post in the 2011 Brock Trophy thread;

What PC Race Management Systems available?

What PC based Race Management Systems are available, that are also suitable for time selling in commercial raceways?

Trackmate and Slottrak are both I have used. Trackmate is better for rental it is good to look at for customers using the raceway for the first time. Slottrak runs on the same hardware but is much better for Racing. Neither are perfect but both run on any simple PC or Laptop and are very easy to use.
If its just rental system your after there is a Australian produced system available ready to use. The race program is coming just not finished yet but its very close. Currently being used at Thunderdome slotcars and I will be using it very soon as well.

We are after something PC based for rental and racing that has at lease the JRS features, plus;
- Handle more than 8 (10~20+) drivers in a rotation in one race;
- Store relevant data;
- Back-up for power outages;
- etc.
We are currently scraping $s together with the intention of buying
LapMaster, which seems to be growing in popularity in the US.
It would be nice to get an Aussie system though.

In case you don't recall, that's the system many of you have been using for the last 20 years. Let me list a couple of its features and how they compare to Windows systems to refresh your memories.
Point 1 - Lap counting that never misses and accurate 1,000th of a second lap timing. The JRS system can count and time 1000 inputs a second on 8 lanes simultaneously. Any Windows system that uses the PC for timing will not give accurate lap times, period. I don't care what kind of crap anyone sprouts about Windows multimedia timers, the timers may run at warp speed but Windows will service the inputs when it feels like it and not before. Just in case you missed it here it is again - any lap times recorded on a PC that uses Windows timing cannot be regarded as accurate.
Point 2 - The best time selling system, then and now. I won't criticise anyone else's software by name but selling time on most systems is a nightmare.
Other stuff we had before anyone else - rider detection; race to the lap counter at the end of the race so there's no footage and no "roll for a pass"; restart a race from the last segment with staggered start according to the last lap time (what? you didn't know you could do that?)
So you see the little abacus with its 32 bit Motorola 6800 processor can still do a better job of lap timing than your Windows 7 box.
The next time you have a power outage blame the fact that you didn't bother to put a UPS on the computer and stop trashing the system that's served you well for 20 years. The Amiga's time has come, there are no more to be had, so go and buy a Windows system, but be careful which one if you expect accurate lap times.
And as for wing car racing in this country; lap counters are the least of your problems.

Gary, I'm a firm supporter of the JRS Amiga system, and it does everything our little club needs.
It's the Amiga platform that we are concerned about.
We have a few spare Amigas but are slowly using them up.
Our unit has been a bit reluctant to boot up at times, and we are concerned that it may die, leaving us without a system to run our track, causing us to look for a back-up.
What would you recommend?
