HSC Aussie Retro CanAm & F1 Rnd 1 2011

Post by stoo23 »

First up, may I apologise, for taking so long to 'post' this race report, especially as I actually Won the CanAm race!!,..lol but have been a bit busy of late.

We had a pretty good selection of some of the usual racers front up to take the start tonight, although, with only 8 starters for CanAm and 7 for F1.

CanAm

May I say it was Great to see Steve King back to join us this evening, along with Charles Rickards, along with Jacco, Mark, Jake Rob, Darryl and myself.

This race was (as is becoming the 'Norm' at HSC these days), another Very Clean and Fast race and a whole Heap of Fun, in fact Both races were!

Mark, Jake and Charles took up the tussle at the front in the early stages, with Mark basically hanging onto 1st upto the end of the 4th bracket, closely followed by Charles, Jake and Myself. After starting on Purple and then Black, I had managed to get back upto 2nd by the end of the 4th bracket on the same Lap as Mark with 128 laps and with Jake dropping slightly behind along with Mark dropping to 3rd, it left Charles and myself battling it out and swapping 1st and 2nd in the final 4 brackets.

Jacco and Darryl seemed to be having their own race, continually swapping places along with Rob, until he had a problem in the 4th bracket and withdrew from the race.
Steve K, was I fear suffering from a lack of track time around HSC and also possibly not having a particularly fast motor.

As mentioned, it was a very clean and fast race, with Mark, Charles and myself managing to turn some 34's and good totals being returned by almost everyone throughout the race.
I managed to grab 1st in the 7th bracket and hold onto it until the end, with Charles, Mark and Jake following closely behind.

Final outcome;
1st Stoo 258 laps
2nd Charles 257 laps
3rd Mark 256 laps

4th Jake 254 laps
5th Jacco 243 laps
6th Darryl 241 laps
7th Steve 226 laps
8th Rob 109 laps

F1

This was another Fantastic race, with the whole field being and remaining Very close, with many of us being on the same laps race long.

Rob was definitely 'On the Money' in F1 tonight, apart from a slight 'Hiccup' in the 2nd bracket.
Mark had a Slow start, working his way towards the front as the race progressed.
I managed to grab 1st after the 2nd bracket, with a bit of a 'wobble' towards the end, when the racing really picked up with All the top places swapping between Mark, Rob, Charles and Myself.

In fact Charles and myself were Very close along with Mark and in fact, I had Not noticed I was So close to Rob and actually drove the last bracket basically trying to just do a good clean 'Safe' bracket to protect my position from Charles. Had I known I was in fact so close to Rob, I would have perhaps attempted to challenge him for the lead.
We eventually crossed the line almost at exactly the same time on the same laps, with realistically only about 1 or 2 feet between us !!!
In fact the fight for 3rd and 4th between Charles and Mark was similarly close, with the two of them in a similar position to Rob and myself,..it was,..a VERY close event.

It would perhaps have been really cool to have taken out both races this evening, but was in fact just as enjoyable, to have Rob manage to take his First Retro Win, with a Very Fine and Worthy drive !!,..Hearty Congrats and Well done Rob !!,..:)

Jake and Jacco seemed to have a race long duel between themselves, being only slightly off the pace of those at the front.
Steve K had and unfortunate F1 race, with problems ensuing during the 3rd bracket, only turning 18 laps and then withdrawing from the race.

As mentioned, this was a particularly enjoyable race and in fact, along with the earlier CanAm race, made for one of the most enjoyable, fast and Very close races we have had.
Everyone had a really great time tonight and Really enjoyed the racing!

This relatively regular bunch of drivers are All really talented, fast, Fun and Friendly group of racers, that make these events So thoroughly enjoyable!

Final outcome;
1st Rob 249 laps
2nd Stoo 249 laps
3rd Charles 248 laps

4th Mark 248 laps
5th Jacco 238 laps
6th Jake 235 laps
7th Steve K 77 laps

As mentioned, this was a really Great evenings racing and if this is any indication of the racing yet to come this Year, bodes well for another fantastic season of Aussie Retro racing at HSC !! :) :D

Steve King, has ofcourse uploaded the results of this and previous Aussie Retro events on the "Aussie Retro" site as well,..see here;
