Coupe Bodies

Just a bit curious, what are the preferred Coupe bods now being used at HSC?

Please show pix of them.

Your 'post', inspired me to add the pictures of the last Retro round, that I had somehow forgotten to,..DOH!,..

there are a few 'pics' of the Coupe bodies there.

To be honest,..depending on the 'variables' of your 'chosen' Chassis, there might NOT be a great deal of choice, as with a few of the bodies, there is a somewhat 'limited' distance from the Centre of the Front wheel arches and the Front Edge of the Body,..thus limiting the Guide lead as such.

Many of the bodies also seem to have a Lot of Rear overhang,..arguably Never a Good thing,..Especially when it is High Up !!

As can be seen in the above 'linked' pics, there are examples of the Outisight "Chevron B16", as used by Jacco and myself, James is running a Sunoco liveried "Ferrari 512", a JK I believe, I 'Think' the three Winners, were all using RedFox 917's and in Reality, one could argue that Cody's "Paper Thin" version is Not really 'In the Spirit' of the Rules as such! All of the RedFox bodies are a 'Bit Thin'.

I think I have also previously run one of the RedFox Lola T70's and the JK Lola T70 looks OK as well,..if perhaps 'typical' of JK, in that arguably ALL of Their bodies are Kinda 'Squished', to 'appear' as Longer, Flatter and Wider than Reality!!,..lol

May I add that I am somewhat annoyed with myself, for once again, Not getting My Truescale order together, as Victor has some Very nice and dimensionally suitable Retro Coupe bodies, such as the McLaren M6GT, His Lola T70, etc,...(must email Victor!!,...lol).

I'm building a couple of frames to try an idea that I've had for a while, so might as well stick a Coupe body on one of them.

Not sure about joining back in on a regular basis, but hoping to have a run here and there.

The regs for the CanAm, and I guess as a legacy the Coupes as well, covers the flimsy body aspect;
Body 1
".... Note: It is requested, in keeping with the spirit of retro racing, that bodies not be any less than .007”
thick on the sides. Any body found to be flimsy or a detriment to marshaling will need to be corrected by the racer.
Tape or body armor may be used to achieve the desired side thickness."

A "request" only, so I figure some people may thumb their noses at 'keeping in the spirit'.

Yes,..BUT it Does 'Stipulate' 10thou bodies does it Not ???

That 'Request' for Reinforcement of the 'Sides', has more to do with Marshaling I believe, as not All thin sided bodies provide great handling.

Depending on Your Chassis' Specs', and with Your personal preferences 'considered' :D , I'd go for a Chevron! :) A more 'Typical' Late 60's US Pro style body than some of the Other offerings, IMHO ;) :)

Hmmm... not that I can see (mighta missed it tho) in the original Aussie Retro CanAm regs, but I don't know if they have been revised at all.

Which regs are you looking at?

Yep, I think the main issue with thin sides is for the marshalling aspect. Some of the cars are that flimsy, they are difficult to pick up, and takes longer than it should. It's in the driver's best interest to make cars easy to marshall so that can be returned to the slot quickly. I know, I know.. you shouldn't come off :lol: but for the times where other buggers have over cooked it and take you out, we have no choice.

Thanks for the suggestion on the Chevron. Are they normally available from HSC, or do we gotta get them elsewhere?

Ahh,..OK,..I thought the IRRA rules and or D3 DID stipulate 10thou bodies,..are you Sure We didn't Also adopt that Spec?

As far as I know there Should be Outisight Chevrons at HSC,..maybe give em a quick call,..Hmm,..in fact I could use Another!!,.. :D

We adopted the IRRA regs as they were at the time, but they may have revised theirs, and we have been left behind.

The only differences we had were, Cheetah motors, no ball races in the rear, and inclusion of Sunset bods.

Whodya think should maintain the regs??

Well, as you suggested, I checked the overseas Reg's and Sure enough,..D3 Rules Clearly 'Stipulate' 10thou, whereas the IRRA Reg's, describe the body thickness, ONLY as you have previously 'posted'.

A degree of assumption as to the Bodies desired thickness.

I'll ask him,.. :)

As we are based on the IRRA Regs maybe should amend ours in line.

They have adjusted the body regs to read;
"D. Body
1. All approved Can-Am bodies are listed in the “Approved Body Lists” section. All bodies must be representative of
pre-1970 Can-Am /USRRC cars.
1a. Bodies may not be any less than .007” thick on the sides. Any body found to be flimsy or a detriment to
marshaling will need to be corrected by the racer. Tape or body armor may be used to achieve the desired side
thickness."

I thought you may have suggested Hutcho to look after the regs.
