HSC Aussie Retro CanAm & F1 Round 5
Posted: Sun Jun 13, 2010 1:30 pm
Once again, a Fine Time was had by all this last Saturday Night!
With Wayne and Cody in Melbourne for the Adam Miller at King Willy's, I was unsure what sort of roll up we would get.
Ofcourse the Keen 'Regulars' were there, but it was Good to see Lindsay again AND Tony Pye!
So we had 8 starters for the CanAm, so had 2 x Heats of 4 and 7 starters for F1, so we had Just the One race, With Excellent and Much appreciated marshalling from Chris, Gary and Tony.
Thanks a Bunch Guys, (Just think, if I had 'sorted' the front end earlier, then there would hardly have been Any marshalling to do!!,..lol).
I had finally finished a New F1 I had started some time ago and quickly threw the New CheetahII motor I found lying around in it, (Which as I soon remembered, I had Purchased for My CanAm, as Boy, was It 'Down on Power' !!,..DOH!).
CanAm Heat 1
OK, so we have Troy Boldy, Mark Fox, Dale and Myself. I Knew I was at a slight disadvantage, but Boy when we got Going, Both Dale and I had to spend the Whole race driving as Hard as we could, just to Keep both Mark and Troy even Vaguely 'In Sight'.
It was as would be expected a Very Clean race, (in fact Both heats were!), with Mark and Troy having a lot of Fun running together, With dale virtually Assured of his position and Myself just Trying to Turn OK lap totals.
Fortunately the car Does handle well, which atleast allowed me to drive hard in the corners, but I just had 'No Legs' !!1,..lol
So at the finish, of Heat 1, we had Troy taking 1st (and Ultimately the overall Win), with 263 laps, with Mark finishing in 2nd on 258 laps, Dale finishing strong and 'Chasing' mark the Whole way ending in 3rd, with 253 with myself bringing up the rear in 4th with 243!,..Sad!!,..lol
(Damn, I just realised I forgot to get Another New CheetahII,..Doh !!).,..."Must, must, must make a mental note, Make a mental Note",..lol
CanAm Heat 2
Once again, another Fun fast and clean race.
This heat was Also a 2 x 2 car race, with James and Jacco and Lindsay and Tony, the Latter Two seeming to be having a Lot of Fun!, with Lindsay occasionally 'Lining Tony Up for some Excellent 'Nerfing',..Invariably Taking either Himself or Both of them Out !!,..lol
There was a Lot of laughter
James was Zooming along quite quickly thank you very much amongst all the Fun and laughter, eventually Finishing a worthy 1st (and taking 3rd overall on laps), with Jacco putting in a Fine Drive, with 'Probably' a few too many deslots for himself to be Truly Happy, but a good run into 2nd with 242 laps and Lindsay and Tony ending on 236 and 227 laps respectively.
I do hope Tony had a good time and might turn up again for some more racibng soon, as it's always Fun seeing Old racing buddies, especially Good drivers like Tony and Lindsay is Sure getting into the 'Scratchbuilding' Feel of retro, with a couple of Very interesting and Extremely Original chassis, which seem to be working OK so far. (They are Both rather Light btw).
So overall lap total Winners in CanAm;
1st Troy Boldy 263
2nd Mark Fox 258
3rd James Colfax 256
4th Dale Andersen 253
5th Stewart Amos 243
6th Jacco ?? 242
7th Lindsay Byron 236
8th Tony Pye 227
F1 Main
This was a Good, Fast and thoroughly enjoyable F1 Race!
Some great clean racing resulting in a lot of happy satisfied drivers!!
Although we would Not have had enough Marshalls, (especially with My Car at the start!), it would have been nice to have had Tony have a run in F1's, to have Made a Complete Field,..but Your marshalling, Was appreciated as it Always is for those that Help us race but Don't themselves !! Once again, Thanks Guys !!!
Heck, What can I say about this race?
The Motor I inadvertently put into My New F1 car Instead of My CanAm car, proved to be an Absolute Rocket !!,..BUT, in My 'haste' to finish the car and give it a Run, I had a Less than Ideal Guide/Front Wheel height.
During testing, the car felt Good, especially considering it Only weighed in at 105 grams ready to race!!
A quick 'Application' of Some Lead 'Tuning',..lol brought it up to 114 grams, Still a bit Light,... but Oh Baby, when I Finally Fixed up the Whole Front End towards the end of the race, the car Showed Great potential and seemed to 'have the measure' of everyone on the Track!
Now if Only I had the Right Guide height at the Start !!!,..Doh !!
Anyway,..apart from Myself, this was an incredibly Close Fought Race, with the lead and the Podium places chenging and rechanging, race Long.
Mark Fox had an early 'handle' on the race, with Both Troy and Dale swapping the top 3 places race long.
James and Jacco and Lindsay were also Very close behind and were having their own Private tussle for the Minor placings.
There was as stated, some really Great racing going on and was really very clean considering the Intensity and lack of marshalls !!!,..lol
So, the Final outcome, had mark being 'Pipped' by Troy for 1st in the last two brackets.
Dale having secured 3rd?,..lol with James right on his tail Jacco not far behond with Lindsay finishing on the same lap!
Great racing guys !!
1st Troy Boldy 249 laps. NB: I think in fact this IS the First Race win in Any Aussie retro race with a "Keeet" car, this being a Slick7 !!
2nd Mark Fox 248 laps
3rd Dale Andersen 243 laps
4th James Colfax 242 laps
5th Jacco ?? 238 laps
6th Lindsay Byron 238 laps
7th Stewart Amos 214 laps
Once again a Great Fun and Friendly Nights racing with some really good drivers. Always a Pleasure.
Don't forget now,..it's Coupe' Bodies for the Next 4 rounds of the Series. With CanAm being used for the Nats' and State Titles.
