Hi All,
Bit of a cool night for this round as we head into winter but we had 10 keen racers ready to go accompanied by Casey who kindly volunteered his time to run the show and of course we had Toni manning (womening?) the BBQ for steak and bacon sambos to keep us going.
CanAm Retro
Heat 1
Ando lead the pack around to take the win narrowly over Wayne W with Gregg filling out the podium. Was great to Stevo again and also a big shout out to Stumpy making his first appearance (to my knowledge) at this track.
Heat 2
I managed to lead all the way but in the end won by a hair's breadth with both Darryl and Dave Fitz coming after me in the final bracket where I had lots of traffic issues on Red but somehow managed to hold on. Three of us on the same lap at 1.048 seconds between us wow - that's close as I have ever seen the podium spread.
Fitz would have won this race and broken the laps total record (currently 242 for Darryl) but had a little trouble - look at his times. AMAZING
Overall Placings and Pointscore to date
GT1
Heat 1
A total procession with the 'Ghost who Walks' aka Mr Walker (Wayne to his friends) proving a cut above Stevo and Ando to win with a strong total. Gregg held down the next spot ahead of Stumpy who had major issues and retired during the first bracket.
Heat 2
Apart from the first bracket Troy lead the field to victory however he was never more than a lap up on Charles to the end of the 5th bracket where both drivers pulled out everything they had. Charles was closing on Troy all the way and may have just got there but a de-slot late in the bracket saw the end of that dream as Troy held on to win by 2.154 secs - both drivers recording 270 laps - a new record
Overall Placings and Pointscore to date
I would like to point out the great effort put in by the SSME team with preparing the track for the racing over the series to date.
This is evidenced by the laps and times scored - for example:
5 of the GT1 drivers on the night had best times on ALL lanes under 4 sec with Charles the fastest overall on 3.693 (best in series to date is moi on 3.681 in #2).
Two drivers beat the GT1 laps record on the night.
In Retro Fitz and Darryl are knocking over 4.2's on a regular basis while mortals are doing regular 4.3's (best in series is Fitz with 4.253 in #1).
Three drivers finished 1 lap shy of Darryl's record of 242 laps which he has done in both the previous rounds. If Dave Fitz had not had minor car problems there would surely be a new mark here IMHO.
So the fantastic conditions and the great feed provided by Toni make this series a great way to spend the last Tuesday evening of the month.
Thanks and Cheers
