Hi All,
Well it was a great day out for the 12 racers that attended this event which unfolded as follows.
Track opened at 8:00 am and the place was humming soon after with some good practice and shake out accompanied by the excellent Bacon and Egg sambos put together on the barbie by the ever friendly and BBQ Queen Toni.
We kicked off with the Retro's with a good variety of chassis on display for the two races of 6 entries.
Retro CanAm
Race 1
A very processional affair with Andrew leading all the way followed by Ron and Ando. Stevo held down 4th spot until faltering in the last bracket to be pushed down to 5th by Warren. Roland held the anchor in his first race while he just motored around and tried to stay out of trouble.
Race 2
Wayne W led Kenny at the end of B1 but after that he spent the rest of the race chasing Kenny as did he rest of us with Darryl taking 3rd spot.Wayne B and myself had a great battle and finished on the same lap with me only 0.135 of a second in front at the finish while Stoo suffered a little with pace and brought up the rear.
Kenny was in a class of his own setting fastest laps on all lanes and driving hard to hold off Wayne W and Darryl.
F1
Again a broad range of chassis on display - many variations on the JK F1 kit here.
With only 9 entries we decided to have a round-robin format race which makes it difficult to give any real analysis of what was going on but at the end of the Race it was mine with Darryl and Kenny filling the podium.
We then adjourned for lunch with some as always terrific stuff coming off the BBQ - sausages, bacon, eggs and fried onions with some fresh bread from Toni's skilled hands.
Slotworx Porsche Cup
Again a 9 racer round-robin format and thus difficult to analyse but I can tell you it was Wayne W all the way chasing down Darryl (who led off on Blue and so had a straight run to the line with all his byes at the end) with a loaner from Ron who finished in 3rd spot himself. It then gets quite interesting with the next 4 racers finishing on the same lap in the order of Stoo and Mark (30 cm apart) followed by Wayne B ( a further 60 cm behind) and then Kenny about half a lap back!! It certainly was tough to nail that 4th spot Ando and Warren also had a great finish with only a lap separating them at the finish.
Slotworx V8s
Six racers for this one and as I was not one of them I got to witness a totally engrossing race between Darryl the eventual winner and Warren a super close (about half a lap) 2nd. These two were never more than a lap apart and were followed home by Ron who held 3rd all the way then Wayne B, Kenny and Ando.
Well that wraps it up - 4 Races and 4 different winner.
A great format initiated by Ron (who by the way had the track in tip-top shape) and it was so much fun we are doing it again next month - see upcoming races.
Cheers
