SRC 2019 Round 4 - HSC

Post by Mark Fox »

Hi All
Good turnout as usual for this Tuesday night series with 15 starters for GT1 on the big track and 9 for Retro CanAm on the small track.

GT1

The brothers Michael and Adam just blitzed the field in this race to be separated by 2 laps at the finish after swapping the lead from Adam to Michael at the half-way mark.

Second place Adam finished 14 laps ahead of 3rd place Jason B who just pipped Joe.

John and Stevo had a good battle initially but John stormed over the top in the final brackets.

Great to see our long time volunteer marshal Greg Erskine behind a controller but it had been a while since he last raced and he was understandably a little rusty.

After we all settled it was Troy all the way followed by Gregg T and Darryl for the podium.

Wayne and I had a nice little battle for 4th with Wayne winning by about half a second in the end.

Jason Mc and GANGSTER team mate Kenny held down 6th and 7th respectively whilst fellow SSME driver Andrew destructed in the 2nd bracket to bring up the rear.

Wash-up

Well as I said earlier it was the brothers Michael and Adam who just smashed the field.

Michael set fast time overall and fastest times on 7 lanes with Adam filling in the blank. Both drivers set time on all lanes under 5 seconds - I have never seen any driver do this personally so to have 2 do it on the same night was awesome. To put it in perspective no other driver went under 5 secs on any lane for the night with Troy (3rd) being the closest at 5.002.

Very unlucky night for Andrew as he came storming home after putting his motor back in place as evidenced by his times in the 5.0s and his 24 laps on green and finish of 25 on Black.

Good close racing for us mortals with only 5 laps covering 5th to 11th.

This was a good race with Jason B, Troy and Wayne mixing it up and proving a little too fast for Gregg T who held 4th for the duration from the 3rd while Stevo indulged his primary passion of having a great time come what may.

It was relative newcomer (to Retro at least although a VERY seasoned racer in many other classes) Jason B (or Brooksy) who prevailed with a very solid 181 laps after a race long battle with Wayne and Troy.

Wayne led from bracket 2 until the 7th when, as he was finishing on Purple and Black, his 2 lap lead on Troy and 1 lap on Jason was unlikely to be enough to hold the lead - and so it came to pass with Jason knocking him to 2nd in the 7th and Troy putting him in 3rd in the final bracket.

With Jason setting such a good total to chase we all knew we had to go hard to beat him and so FAT Racing representatives Mark and Darryl set off to do that.

The track was really fast and beautiful to drive as James and Joe had cleaned and prepped it that day.

Darryl and I had a great time pushing each other to the limit to try and beat 'the Kid' which ultimately we did with Darryl setting a personal best of 182 and me not quite equaling my personal best of 186 (record is Cody with 189!!).

Jason Mc had a great race also finishing with 171 which is a very creditable performance given his experience. Both he and Kenny drove very well with few offs and were very considerate to myself and Darryl who were circulating a little quicker.

Well Brooksy set the pace in Race 1 and it certainly woke up Darryl and I to go as hard as we could.

Having 3 finish in the 180s is a superb effort and is a tribute to the racers and also the great track prep by James and Joe.

Fast times were dominated by me with 3 lanes into the sub 5 sec territory (Green, Orange and White) and 3 lanes in the 5.0s (Blue, Yellow and Red).

Brooksy was also very fast with overall best times on Purple and Black at 5.191 and 5.286 respectively. Both Brooksy and Darryl did 4 lanes in the 5.0s.

Very fast racing.

Remember

Coupes and F1 this coming Sat (3rd) and Nats for CanAm and F1 following Sat (10th) - both races are on the small track.

Cheers
