HSC 2018 Retro Series Rnd 10 - Big Track (BTR) 08/12/2018

Hi All,
The last Retro race for 2018 was the final round of the HSC Club series for Coupes and F1 on the Big Track.
We had six starters for the two races and with the ever energetic Greg Erskine and James armed with his trusty track-call clicker as marshals we set off.
Coupes
Going into this race it was going to be Darryl or myself crowned as HSC CanAm/Coupe pointscore winner for the year with Darryl starting 2 points up.
My plan was to try and win the race so I would then have at least 2 points on whoever came 2nd and my better win rate would carry the day.
However as you will see it did not quite pan out as planned (my plan ).
Wayne B using Cody’s weapon just blasted away to finish 3 laps over me followed by Joe who held down 3rd spot all the way.
Darryl and Stoo had a good battle with Stoo holding sway to lead by 2 laps going into the final two brackets. Unfortunately Stoo lost his way a little on White and Red (easily done I can assure you ) to drop 4 laps on Darryl who took out 4th followed by Stoo and Neil.
Wayne set fastest laps on all but Red lane where I was able to do so somehow. Cody would have been proud and Wayne showed that there is a lot of life left in the ‘old man’.
This result had Darryl and I tie for the year but I was deemed the annual winner due to a higher win rate whilst Neil secured 3rd spot for the year.
F1
Same story here with Darryl 2 point up and me with the same old plan – I never give up (some say never learn ).
I got the jump on Wayne for the first 2 brackets but then he found his rhythm and just took it away with me holding down 2nd for the rest of the proceedings.
Darryl just settled into 3rd and stayed there for the whole race to be always a lap or 2 ahead of Joe who grabbed 4th off Stoo in the 2nd Bracket and held on tight.
Neil was having some unusual fun launching up the main straight into the bank wall much to his delight - not .
Interestingly though Wayne, Darryl and myself did more laps with F1 than CanAm while Stoo did the same laps. Wayne set fastest time of the night on Red and fastest time overall on 6 lanes with Cody’s F1 !
This is the car that Tommy Flyth built for Lindsay Byron and as far as I can recall it has only been beaten once – by me in the 2016 Brabham Trophy race on Race World's King track when Cody was piloting it – certainly a great chassis.
So Darryl finishes a point ahead of me for the season and takes out the F1 honours with Neil again in 3rd spot.
So that’s it for 2018, as usual a big thanks to James for hosting the racing we love.
Big thanks to Greg who turns up for every race to have a chat and help out by marshaling.
The 2019 Calendar is posted and the first race is on Australia Day weekend.
See you there.
