NSW Retro Titles Round 2 (BTR) 24/11/2018

Hi All
The second round of NSW Retro Titles was held on Saturday 24 November 2018 and attracted a small field of 6 for CanAm and 7 for F1 after Neil pulled out of CanAm with mechanical gremlins in practice.
Luckily we had a couple of volunteer marshals with our tireless marshal Greg Erskine teaming up with Stephanie and James on the loop and track call button to enable one race for each class.
CanAm
Qualifying
It seems that Cody is in unstoppable form and blitzed the times with a new track record I believe knocking off my previous best time by about 1/10th second. Very consistent as well with three times within about 1/00th second of each other.
Race
Well as you might suspect Cody led all the way but I did a pretty good job of hanging on to finish only five laps down. I would have been a little closer but for poor runs on Orange and Red.
Quite some way back Darryl and Wayne were battling for third. They were never more than a couple of laps apart and were equal after the 6th bracket. However Wayne with Purple and Black to finish on and Darryl on Green and Blue it was going to be hard for Wayne and so it panned out with Darryl taking third by two laps.
Unfortunately Joe and Brad had absolute shockers and bowed out after the 2nd and 1st bracket respectively.
F1
Qualifying
Just re-read my spiel from CanAm.
Yes the Kid struck again with quick times.
Race
Talk about a disparity in speed – Cody had nobody keeping him vaguely honest this time around and he absolutely blitzed/decimated/destroyed the field to win by 20 laps over his Dad in second spot.
I was kind of keeping Wayne honest until I lost the tyre on my right front wheel and then spent the rest of the race limping around.
Brad had a go and was doing ok to be 2nd at the end of the 3rd bracket on the same lap as Wayne with Darryl and Joe a few laps back.
At the half way mark it was Cody 10 laps up on Wayne and Brad (equal laps) who had made a break on Darryl and Joe.
In the 5th bracket Brad destroys but still hold 3rd over Darryl who had a slight break on Joe – however it was the end of the race for Brad.
By the end of the 6th bracket all fates were sealed with Cody and Wayne doing their Son / Father thing in front with Darryl having shaken off Joe a little with a four lap advantage. Brad was now retired and I was walking (fingering? – sounds rude) wounded.
But - I can hear you ask, "what about Neil?"
Well even though Brad and I suffered mechanical letdowns with some monumental launches from Brad it was Neil who took suffering to a new level.
Coughed a gear in the 1st bracket and retires to change it. Comes back to the track to find his car is in reverse, "bugger I put the gear on the wrong side" (or words to that effect) we hear him mutter. Back to swap sides with the gear and back into the action only to retire again two brackets later.
That’s slot racing some days and we have all been there more often than we would like.
Titles Results
As you may by now suspect Cody is 2018 NSW Aussie Retro Title holder for CanAm and F1.
The following Table shows the final point score – I have only included those who completed both rounds.
There was a 3 way tie for 3rd in F1 with Wayne taking the prize as he had the highest finish of 2nd of the three contenders.
Notes
Concours d’Elegance (please all pedants forgive my spelling in the photo - 'Concourse' rather than 'Concours') was awarded to Wayne (CanAm) and Darryl (F1) based on this round.
TQ award was based on aggregate of times wherein Cody’s 3 TQ’s beat my 1
Trophy Time
Thanks James for the series and special thanks the volunteer marshals Greg and Stephanie which made it a much better night and enabled me to make it to the pub earlier than otherwise to drown my sorrows.
Regards
