Race Report - SRC 2018 Round 3 SSME

Hi All,
Well Tuesday 26th June; a cold night in Luddenham; drew a good field of 14 racers for the third round of the popular SRC series for Retro CanAm and GT1 cars.
The 14 entries dictated two races of 7 (round robin) would be run.
Looking at the lap totals after each bracket once the race has been finalised is the only way to see what happens in these races as to how racers were going against each other.
Great variety in the CanAm chassis shown here.
CanAm
Race 1
Wayne W led Mark on the 1st bracket but from then on Mark held a slight lead followed by Stoo who came charging home on Purple to finish only a lap down on Wayne.
Wayne B and Shalin had a good battle with Shalin breaking free by a lap to finally finish 4th with Wayne B 5th. A steady run from Peter had him finishing 6th over Stevo 7th.
Podium L - R
Wayne W 2nd, Mark 1st (2nd overall) and Stoo 3rd
Race 2
Darryl led the way all the way to win by 2 laps.
Troy, Casey and Richard really had a great battle with Troy slowly working the cobwebs off after starting on White and Red to reel the other 2 in for 2nd spot.
Gregg T (a driving machine) was never far off the pace but held down 5th all the way to be only a lap behind Richard whilst Andrew and Neil finished a lap apart in 6th and 7th respectively.
Podium L - R
Troy 2nd (3rd overall), Darryl 1st (1st overall) and Casey 3rd
The Wash-up
As can be seen from the Wash-up Table this was a very closely fought event!
Darryl took the win by 2 feet (that’s 60cm for the young ones) over Mark followed by Troy 2 laps adrift for the overall podium.
However the next 5 places were within 2 laps with Casey pipping Stoo by a few feet and Gregg T doing likewise to Richard.
Fastest lap of 4.546 went to Mark on Blue. Other lanes fastest were Mark on White, Stoo Red and Purple (gutter specialist?), Troy on Green and Casey on Yellow.
Great Racing.
I take a moment here to highly recommend participating in an Enduro if you get the chance as demonstrated by the rapid improvement of Wayne W and Shalin to name a couple of examples.
Oh which reminds me; there is another 4 Hour Enduro at HSC on the Short Track for CanAm Retros on July 15th (which also is my birthday so come along and try to ruin my day – or make it as the case may be).
Seriously though it would really make my day if we get 8 teams on the track and have a great race together – for the newer racers it is the best way to learn a track.
GT1
Race 1
In what in my books was a very rough race Mark and Shalin mixed it for the win here with Shalin; after leading in the preceding 3 brackets; faded in the last bracket on the slow side of the track to allow Mark to storm home.
Richard was never far away and just managed to hold off Stoo by a few feet for 3rd.
Wayne B was going well also but White and Red lanes saw him drop from 3rd to 5th while Stevo and Peter brought up the rear.
Race 2
It was Troy, Gregg and Darryl battling here with Troy taking it with Gregg on the same lap and Darryl a lap behind.
Casey and Wayne had a great race to finish on the same lap but 6 laps adrift of Darryl whilst Andrew and Neil finished the round up.
The Wash-up
Again very close at the top; 1 lap between 1st and 3rd; feet between 4th and 5th.
The second race took the first 5 places and seemed to be a little less messy than the first while also taking out all the fast laps.
Troy set the mark with 3.937 on Yellow and was also fastest on Green. Darryl was quickest on Purple and Red (another gutter specialist like Stoo perhaps?) while Casey was quick on Blue and White.
Sorry Wayne W but I definitely believe that your recorded 3.737 on Purple was a short lap
Thanks everybody for making it a great night and special thanks to Ron for organising and ensuring the track was in the great shape we enjoyed.
Really great to see Wayne Bramble back in action for this race as well – hope to see a little more of you Wayne (how about at the HSC Enduro with Cody – hint, hint).
