KING WILLYS 27L & 2MO ~ FINAL ROUND~ NOV 21
Posted: Tue Nov 24, 2015 3:31 am
When Geoff arrived at King Willys on Saturday morning,he sat down and said "I suppose I'd better put together a motor for 27 Lite".
With 1 point separating Geoff,Russell and myself in the race for this years championship,I thought he was taking a risk, gambling on an untried combination.
WRONG!!!!
He must have done this before!
He did a couple of hot laps in the 2.2 range and said "That'll do."
He qualified second and the car just got faster as his heat went on.
Geoff finished first in heat 1 with 591 laps.
Russell and I had a target for heat 2.
The current lap total record is Timmy Tylers 599. My best was last years 592. I think Russ ran 588 earlier this year. Geoff had set a pretty high standard!!
Halfway through heat 2,I was looking down the barrel of a total around 605. Russells car wasn't behaving and he was slightly off the pace. Brad Verbeek was a comfortable 2nd. First lap, bracket 5 - BANG!!! Cleaned up in the Deadman. Next lap -BANG!!! into the Deadman wall. And again. And again. And again!
Heaps of grunt-No brakes. Turned out to be a split endbell. Motor swap, but its too late......
Brad went on to win the heat. Well done kid!! Russell finished 2nd.
27 Lite
1st. Geoff. 591
2nd. Rick. 582
3rd. Stuart. 581
4th. Tim. 580
5th. Brad. 571
6th. Russell. 569
7th. Bruce. 558
8th. Andy. 534
9th. Dave. 421
TQ. Andy. 2.1590
Geoff is this years Championship winner!!!
His consistency this season paid off. Always on the podium or there abouts.
CONGRATULATIONS GEOFF!!!
2015 KING WILLYS 27L CHAMPION!
(Can we get the trophy engraved now?.... )
The last couple of race write ups,I'd mentioned how Rick Verbeek had been getting ultra close to running a "1" in OMO/2MO qualifying. On his first lap this time,he ran a low 2.0,then another. I think he was happy with that, but a little bit chat from the "Peanut Gallery" convinced him to do 1 more lap - Thank you very much - 1.95's.
The last couple of races have also seen Tim and Rick on target to reset the 2MO lap total record. It stood at 818 and both times it looked like it would be bettered by 8-10 laps, only to have disaster strike in the last bracket.
Rick solved that problem by obliterating the record, pushing it up to 862!!!
Heat 2 saw Rick,Tim and Russell all pass the old mark. But Ricks pace was outstanding. He had the rest of us easily covered.
2MO
1st. Rick. 862. (New record)
2nd. Tim. 830
3rd. Russell. 823
4th. Stuart. 793
5th. Geoff. 762
6th. Dave. 756
7th Andy. 754
8th. Brad. 735
TQ. Rick. 1.9515. (New record)
So,there you have it folks. That was the wash up from the 2015 KW 27L & 2MO series. There has been a bit of talk about running a point score for 2MO next year. A good idea,I think. We'll leave that one up to the rules committee to decide....
Thanks to Geoff for providing a great place to race again this year.
And thanks to Stuart for the constant tweaking of the track. The improvement is obvious and is reflected in the numbers being run at every race.
On a personal note,I'd like to thank Tim Tyler and ahhh...Whatshisname....ummm...
Oh yeah,Bruce Batten for providing me with a taxi service to KW over the last 4 months. They've carted me,my slotty boxes, crutches, knee scooter, cam boot and any other crap I had,to King Willys without a word of complaint. Oh,except for Bruce, who actually never stopped complaining, In fact,I reckon you'd call it outright SOOKIN'. But if you crank up your iPod,that problem disappears....
Next race at KING WILLYS is the Vic State Titles on December 4,5 & 6.
Thats less than 2 weeks away!!
See ya at the races!!
Cheers,Andy
