NSW State Titles Round #1 - HSC Big Track

Hi All.
The first round of of the NSW Titles was held last Saturday (7th November) on the HSC Big Track using Retro Hawk motors on this fast 220 foot monster.
We had a practice round previously to get acquainted with Retro's on this fast and relatively unforgiving track with some interesting results - cars here need to be fast and strong here.
James edged out Brad in the Can Am by a lap with fast times generally in the high 5.8's for most except for 'Smokin' Joe who carved a 5.628 on purple and a couple of 5.7's to scare the punters. The top 4 finished within 3 laps of each other - James, Brad, Joe and Mark.
F1 was a demonstration by Brad at full flight winning by 9 laps over James with times ranging between 5.63 to 5.93 and blasting 5 more laps in F1 than James in Can Am!!!.
Time for a new F1 I thinks to myself - see my previous post on the outcome of these thoughts.
Now to the Race in Question.
With 10 starters it was decided to have two 3 min Mains with odd numbers in qualifying order to race the first of these and the evens following.
The Line up prior to Scrutiny. Can Am
Qualifying
What can I say - I rarely get ousted in Can Am qualifying and tonight was no exception with a gap of nearly 0.2 sec. The A Main
L to R for cars and drivers:-
Bob, Brad, Peter, Mark and Darryl. This race was a really tight battle between myself and Brad with both on the same lap up to Bracket 4 where somehow I got a 2 lap break on Brad, all to no avail in the end as after leading for 7 brackets I came unstuck on Red to finish 3.044 secs behind. It really was all Brad and I however as Darryl; the next finisher; was 30 laps adrift followed by Peter and Bob. The B Main
L to R for cars and drivers:-
Joe, Lindsay, Neil, Stoo and Leigh. Leigh all the way with Joe chasing followed by Stoo, Lindsay and Neil. The Final analysis:-
Brad 242
Mark 242
Leigh 231
Joe 220
Stoo 214
Darryl 212
Lindsay 210
Peter 202
Neil 202
Bob 188
F1
Qualifying
'Smokin' Joe knows his way around this track and showed it. The A Main
L to R for cars and drivers:-
Darryl, Joe, Neil, Stoo and Leigh. A 'Battle Royal' ensued here with Joe, Stoo, Darryl and Leigh all showing purpose early on. Stoo led until he hit Black where he managed to launch from the finger into the bank and onto the floor - top effort - unfortunately this must have fractured the joints around his front wheel assembly which the proceeded to fall off in the next bracket - one down. It's now Joe and Leigh for line honours and Joe leads it to the 7th bracket where he starts on the same lap as Leigh - blast now he's on the dreaded Red Lane and gets swamped by 'Lethal' Leigh who takes the race. The B Main
L to R for cars and drivers:-
Peter, Mark, Bob, Lindsay and Brad. Another close battle between Brad and Mark with no more than a lap or two in it for the whole race. It got to the last bracket and Brad had a lap up on me and we were both flying with Lindsay holding down a solid 3rd spot over Peter and Bob. There are miracles (for me) and bad luck (for Brad) as his car slowed slightly and I slowly pegged back the difference to take the line by a couple of seconds. The score sheet shows I won by a lap but if you look at the time factor the bell obviously went a couple of tenths of a second after I crossed the line and about 7 tenths of a second prior to Brad hitting the line - hence an extra lap for me but in reality I won by about a second!!! On the basis of this analysis this then put Leigh a further 3 seconds away - very close racing indeed. The Final analysis:-
Mark 228
Brad 227
Leigh 227
Joe 223
Lindsay 223
Peter 217
Darryl 202
Neil 200
Stoo 198
Bob 190

Thanks to James for having the track in great condition and for organising what is turning out to be a great series.
