'Kingleman' at the Wollongong Kart Raceway

Post by stoo23 »

Just thought a few of you might like to have a quick Peek at the Freshly Refurbished 'Johnson' Kingleman, (that used to be at Mobile Raceways and one or two other locations over the years) now given a new Lease on life by Troy Boldy (with the help of the Brambles and Others like Joe etc) down at Kembla Grange at the Karting Facility that has been there for years.

Track is looking Very Smooth and Shiny !! ;) ;) :D Great to see !!
Well Done guys and Best of luck etc,.. I Hope it proves to be Popular and successful !!

Should add an Interesting addition / diversion to an already excellent facility of Long Standing.

Looks Yummy.

Stoo says I have raced on this but I cant remember   :(

Going left to right on the drivers straight will do my head in.

Will be great for Retro-Pro type cars.

Hi Greg , Yes !!
We raced them a couple of times at RACEWORLD when it was running.
See some references to Retro Pro here:

2016 Nats Report:

Personally I think Retro Pro type cars would make More sense for the Big Track and to just race our Original Plafit powered Retro cars on the Small track.

This track, was built by Gary Johnson many years ago, in a manner similar to His Penrith King track and is in effect a Veritable Brick Sh*thouse construction wise and is Very Solid and has Continuous Routing, so Corner entry and exits are Smooth and NOT Like a Scalextric track !!,.. lol

From what I have been told, it has been Fully Sanded Back and re-painted and Re-Braided, with All New Cabling etc, so it is Super Smooth, as I think Can be seen from the Pic !! :)

Hi Greg

Unfortunately we only raced them the one time as indicated in the link provided by Stoo.

As the report shows I absolutely creamed this race - TQ by half a second and win by 40 laps - would love to race these again

Hope you are going well and love to see you soon.

Cheers Fox

Hi there Billy,.. Hmmm, I am somewhat Unsure about That Information.
One Often hears Reports similar to that, only to find there was No Truth to the matter.

We Last Raced on the Track in September 2020, early in the Covid Period, but it was Not actually Covid that caused a cessation of racing on that track, but More a case of Troy (the Owner of the Karting Facility), doing some remodelling/re-arranging of the Whole Site.
See Race Report here: viewtopic.php?t=1584

I only recently spoke with Troy whilst out at SSME for one of the recent SRC rounds and enquired about how things were going etc and whether He had managed to build a New Building for the Track, (Which Prior to Covid, Was his intention), so he could keep the Main Building for Karting, as the Track Did take up quite a bit of room, and seriously compromised his Kart Showroom as such.

Troy did not in Any way suggest the track was Gone or Damaged, but I WILL check and 'Post' here to conform the current 'Situation'.

As a Side issue, the Track Would NOT have Needed much, If ANY Refurbishment as such, as it had been Very Well Re-assembled when initially Setup at the Karting Centre and along with New Braid and Fresh Paint, was in a Very Nice, Fast & Smooth State, once again.

To be Honest, I am somewhat surprised that the Current owners of SlotShop would have Any interest in a Track like that, as it is arguably Not a particularly Suitable 1/32 scale OR 1/24th Scale Type track and is Far more suitable to 1/24th Wing Cars, Fast Fexi's and Retro's etc :)

Well, as suspected AND suggested, having briefly spoken with Troy this afternoon, the "Kingleman", is All Safe & Sound and in Storage and awaiting to be set back up at another time when Space & Finances allow :)
