2023 Lexan Shootout at Seagulls
2023 Lexan Shootout at Seagulls
Hi All
Just recently completed this series for Plafit Historic, Retro CanAm, Slotworx Group C and Limited Sedan Flexi at Kim Axton's track located in Seagulls Club Tweed Heads.
As usual it was a great event with many local and visiting racers converging to do battle for the 'Pro' and 'Am' Trophies on offer for the weekend events.
Kicking right off.
Saturday
Plafit Historic
A great class run weekly by the club guys with only one outsider (Wayne Bramble) able to snare a podium.
Nick and Glyn took Concours for Pro and Am respectively. Qualifying
Racing
Three Mains (heats) to sort out the 18 entries.
Summary of the results.
Retro CanAm
Most popular class of the weekend with 22 entries run on a Repechage system with the top 4 in each 'Consie' moving up to the next heat. Unfortunately I did not get a sheet for the D Consie nor pictures or knowledge of the Concours winners .
Qualifying
Racing
Darryl, Rick, Geoff and Dieter moved up from the missing D Consie for this one.
Jack Couch, Wayne, Darryl T and Lof-T move up to the B Consie
Darryl K, Qld Jack, Charles Rickards and Wayne move up to A Consie
Nick, Darryl K, Qld Jack and Qld Jess move up to the Semi
Rusty, Darryl K, Nick and Ian move up to the Main.
Results Summary
Sunday

We had 11 entries for this so a semi of 8 in round robin format was used to get 4 move ups to join the main sit-outs.

A great turn-out of 22 for the other 'regular' Seagulls weekly club event.
Ian and Dieter won concours in Pro and Am respectfully.
Qualifying
Another repechage with top 4 places moving up.
Ash, Darryl T, Qld Jess and Dave move up.
Ash, Beaky, Darryl K and Darryl T move up.
Beaky, Darryl K, Ash and Darryl T move up
Phil, Darryl K, Beaky and Qld Jack move up.
Rusty, Ian, Fox and Beaky move up
Some Racing Action

4 TQ's
3 Pro Wins
1 Pro 2nd
Some great runs by local Ams: -
Darryl K moving from the Retro CanAmB Consie to the Main
Beaky moving from Sedan Flexi C Consie to the Main
Ash for his outright win in Slotworx Group C by 0.021 sec over Noel.
Some great runs by Visitors: -
Qld Jess for AM TQ and win in Retro CanAm
Qld Jack for AM TQ and 3rd in Flexi Sedan and Retro CanAm
Many great efforts from all and sundry made the Seagulls Club racers a bunch of hard nuts to crack and I hope to be there again soon (with a bigger hammer )
A special thanks to Kim and all the participants to make this a great weekend.
Cheers

Re: 2023 Lexan Shootout at Seagulls
Yeah,, thanks for the Report Mark.
Noel, pretty much 'Cleaned Up' eh !!??
Great to see Geoff Little & Jack Couch travelling up for a run, along with Charles etc
A good 'generous' field
Eric Broadley Would have LOVED the 'Historic' Grid
SO Many Lola's !!

Cheers

Also Dave Swilks who travelled up with Jack and stayed in Kim's garage - Dave in a tent and Jack in a camper van - we all had some great memories to share.

Re: 2023 Lexan Shootout at Seagulls
Hi Mark, This is the best race report I have seen in my 59 years of racing around the world, GREAT job mate, also what body did Noel race in group C?
Re: 2023 Lexan Shootout at Seagulls
Well Gee,.. ,.. thanks Wayne,.. LOL,.. obviously been Wasting all my time doing them in the Past !!
The body Noel used in Group C, isn't Strictly a "Group C" car/body, as the class was known or raced previously as such, and was in Fact an Early example of the forthcoming 'Prototype' Class utilising 3.5 litre Normally Apirated Engines, not the Allowed 'Turbo' Grp C engines, but was allowed to run with the Current (and soon to be Phased-out Group C cars), to sort of Usher in the new cars/class.
It is one of the Later 'Variants' of the Peugeot 905's. A Great looking car in Real life !!

Re: 2023 Lexan Shootout at Seagulls
I couldn’t find it in the list of bodies approved to race,so is this one we can race?
Re: 2023 Lexan Shootout at Seagulls
Hi Wayne, it is 'Listed' under the "1/24th ACE Lexan Group C Body kits" , as 24838 Peugeot 905
See here; viewtopic.php?t=1707
As to whether you Can Run it,.. Hmmm,.. Well I guess Obviously you Can, but IMHO, it Isn't Really in the theoretical 'Spirit' of What Was the Original Group C Class.
To be honest, I am Very surprised it is even on the List of Group C bodies,.. (Because it ISN'T a Group C Car), whereas ALL the Other Bodies in the "ACE" List ARE
In My Mind, it is a bit like in Both the Retro CanAm Rules and Also the Plafit 'Historics', whereby Later Cars Like McLaren M20's and Porsche 917/10 & 30's are Not allowed although in Both those Examples, the Later Cars were Still CanAm/Group 7 cars, whereas the Peugeot 905 was Not Designed under the Previous Group C rules.
I Wouldn't Allow it, but hey,.. Not MY Rules,.. so Go Figure
Hope that helps

Re: 2023 Lexan Shootout at Seagulls
Was just looking at this again,.. and in regard to Noel 'Cleaning Up',.. and the suggestion of it not being that way by His standards,. gee I don't know,.. I actually make it 3 Wins and one damn close 2nd Plus TQ in All classes !!!,.. perhaps not a Clean Sweep, but I reckon Anyone would be pretty happy with that
