I am still using the slick 7 lead wire clips on the motors ,,,,all my motors actually,,, and have not had any mishaps yet,, so I don't have any heat issues there,,,,,,,yet!!!!!!!

Yeah the clips are great for the heat issue BUT I had one come off one night and it cost me a win!

They also go against one of my "guiding principals" in that using them actually introduces a further potential fail point - however like you I thought the upside won the day but I have since gone back to my guiding principals.

I feel better after my vent and I don't want to be trying to milk a dead cow.
But ...... my point is this.
When you buy a Retro Hawk (or a Hawk 7) there is variation in the performance that does not seem to exist with the Cheetah motor. Yes the break in will improve performance, but that is across the board. So a slow motor will go faster, a medium motor will go faster and a fast motor will go faster. The break in method will not make a motor that is slow to start with, faster than a motor that was fast to start with. Theoretically two motors broken in using the same method will improve by the same amount.

Having spent the day pretending to work at the studio and reading slot blog instead. I think the various methods( mainly water/simple green) are aimed at speeding up the process at handout motor races in the US. Long and slow dry would appear as effective in seating the brush as fast and wet. So long as the brush is seated correctly. This is where the black art comes into it, when are the brushes seated correctly? Fox is right try a method and test, the timers don't lie.
Back on my point.....
Retro is a chassis builders class. The motors should be consistent enough for this discussion not to happen....... like when we race with Cheetahs. Retro is about building your chassis, tuning your chassis and driving your chassis against some of the best pilots I have witnessed.

Neil I agree 100% with you.

Retro is about building and driving and motors should not be a deciding factor.

That is why I race Retro - I like building and racing but don't want to f***k around with motors - those who know my history will realise I can build a motor as good or better than the next guy - I just don't want to.

The Big Track as I have said is a predominantly motor track and there is no getting around this fact.
