Round 2 of the title chase was a beauty!!
Nearly all the regulars made it this time. Lee Evans made a pre-Nats appearance but Paul Johnston is still MIA recovering from recent stuff and Mr Tim is in NZ
Because we didn't have enough to laugh at last round,Geoff and I decided to put together a couple of "Junk Draw Specials" for Bruce.
27L
The 27L race was a ripper !
In heat 1,Stuart put together 8 great brackets to post a 593 total.
The rest of us ended up in battle royale for the minor places.
Rick and I finished on 579. Rick got 2nd by 3/10ths.
Only 16 laps separated 2nd to 8th. Close racing folks!!
27L
1st. Stuart. 593
2nd. Rick. 579
3rd. Andy. 579
4th. Dave. 573
5th. Bruce. 573

TQ. Andy. 2.1855
OMO
Everyone had supposedly put the "good stuff" away for the NATS......
It's amazing what can be found in the junk draw and the parts box!
Rick did two laps in qualifying. The first was a 1.95.
The second was a 1.9099,obliterating the OMO lap record.
The first heat was one of the best races I've been in.
Geoff and I got a great start and cleared out with with a couple of laps between us for the first 4 brackets. But Stuart was flying and going into the 7th bracket only 2 laps separated the first 3 places. Stuart slowed slightly in the last bracket and at the end there was 2 laps between me and Geoff.
Heat 2 couldn't have been been a bigger contradiction!
Rick blasted out about a dozen sub 2 second laps ,then hit the dead man wall..... HARD!!!!
Meanwhile with only 2 cars still circulating,Russell was cruising at a pace that would have put on top of the podium ,but he was about to strike just about every problem you could possibly have. In the end he had to settle for 4th overall. While this was going on,Rick had done some repairs and had set about breaking the lap record on every lane!
O.M.O.
1st. Andy. 823
2nd. Geoff. 821
3rd. Stuart. 814
4th. Russell. 795
5th. Bruce. 716
6th. Dave. 683
7th. RicK. 133

So,yet another fantastic day of racing at KING WILLYS.
Good luck to the folks heading to the NATS. Yes,even Bruce (BTW:Where's my bloody sausage roll????? )
We'll see everyone at the next round Sat. April 9.
Cheers,Andy

Thanks to Geoff and Andy for the
'junk drawer specials', don't tell Stumpy!
Finally, after years and years, well, maybe months
I finally beat the little kid in a race.
Andy, it;s a long way to the shop if you
want a sausage roll
Always good fun racing wing cars at KW and will see
most people at the Nats where Brad Verbeek and I will
continue our (my) battle
Happy Motoring
