Twelve entrants saw two 6 car finals run.
Both were fantastic races.
Final A was a demo derby! Lots of track calls, lots of damaged. It was survival of the fittest.
Russell lead going into the 8th bracket. I was 13 laps behind and Bruce (Yes,THAT Bruce!! ) was another 6 laps back.
Everything was going according to script until.....
TRACK!!!!!!!
With about 90 seconds to go Russell got involved in some carnage.
On the restart we all took off - EXCEPT Russell !
A broken lead wire was the culprit.
A quick fix by Timmy Tyler, but I had grabbed the lead and Bruce was up to second 3 laps down. Russ had dropped to third but was still within striking distance.
In the next 45 seconds there was at least 3 track calls. Bruce,Russell and I all hit the floor at different stages. It was crazy!!
With 5 seconds to go,there was a huge cheer!
We all just wanted to stay out of trouble for 2 more laps.
We crossed the line,Bruce looked at me and said "Did you win?" I looked at the screen.. "Nup! You did!!"
The cheer was for Bruce hitting the lead at the death!
It was one of the best races I've ever been involved in. I was happy just to survive the carnage!
Bruce's 705 laps weren't looking too safe by the end of the first bracket of Final B.
Rick and Stuart launched a race long battle and as the standard of racing descended back into demo derby teritory, the 2 of them managed to somehow carve their way through.
In the end,Stuart grabbed the win with Rick second and Geoff picking up third.
And they also took the three podium positions.
A great way to end day 2 of the Brock!
Bring on Sunday!!!!
