World Rankings for Retro Racers. Anyone interested?

Post by SlotBaker »

I'm not sure if anyone is interested in this at all, but if you are, you might like to get involved in discussions on the SlotBlog forum.

Jean Pierre van Rossem is compiling world rankings of Retro racers from all retro racing groups, including USA, Japan, UK, Australia, Europe, etc, etc.

I have presented results from some of our more major events, so that racers may be included for consideration.

Anyway, have a look, and see if you might be interested, or let others know, who may be interested.

Hi Steve,

It looks as though J.P. has taken notice as I see from his latest ramblings Cody Bramble, Troy Boldy and Mark Fox have been invited to compete in the 2012 World Retro Champs in Barcelona.

Congrats to them.

Hi Geoff, thanks for the comment.
Yours is the only one, and I was thinking that no-one gave a stuff.
:(

Yes, congrats to them, and I hope they are able to do as well over there as they do at home.

Maybe JPvR has given us a reason for doing it?

I was plugging to get Aussie Retro racers recognised.

I'm thinking of including Australian rankings for CanAm and F1 on the Aussie Retro site.

My only drama is getting results to publish from major events.

JPvR pretty much only takes note of major races like, State / National / International Championships, and I guess that's fair enough as they are the events that usually attract the better/keener racers.

My initial list was only done on the last few major events, allocating 21 points 1st, 19 2nd, 18 3rd, etc.
Not too scientific, but one way of doing it.

If we go with rankings, we can nominate particular events that would be included, and those events could get better attendance if there was an incentive to participate.

So, does anyone have any thoughts / ideas on how to do the ranking?

Does anyone have any problems with creating Aussie Retro rankings.

:)

Hi Steve,

Perhaps you can include results from the monthly Retro racing at Mobile Raceways.

I guess this is a state race series.

Results and points can be obtained from the M.R. forum.

Keep up the good work,

Hey guys,.. :)

Well there obviously ARE other people interested,..thing is hardly ANY of them Ever 'post' on this forum,..although I Do believe that they Read the posts.

I think Steve has been adding the results of atleast Some of the Victorian Retro events on the Aussie Retro Web Site Geoff.
See here; http://aussieretro.ascra.com.au/results.htm

I guess in some ways I can be Blamed :D :lol: for this World Retro inclusion of Australia etc due to a few 'posts' in the recent discussions on SlotBlog.

It appears it will be held on a Brand New (built for the Event Blue King track), which I guess is OK,..maybe a few of us will have to travel to Melbourne to Test and Tune some chassis that 'Work' on a King track, as what we currently run at HSC would not necessarily be Ideal.

Gaining some experience of running the PS4000 series motors with Puppy Dog Armatures would also be 'Handy',..BUT I am Somewhat Concerned about the mention of using 30thou PETG bodies though??,..Eeeek !!!

Good to see some mention of OUR Local racers now though!!
If you have a bit of a poke around you can see quite a few Friendly Local faces on the IMCA/MOCPA site now !!

I Wonder why James wasn't listed as one of the invited?

So have you taken up the cudgels of being the Local 'Administrator' of Info for JPVR Steve ??

Cheers :)

Geoff, thanks I will try.
I think that only 'Championship' type events should be included in any National ranking system, and that a full record (printouts etc) of the event be held by whoever is doing the ranking.

The series at MR or KW, or anywhere else for that matter, can be used to rank racers for their State.
Same thing goes, whoever is doing the ranking should keep full records of the events/races being uesd in the calculation.

As Stoo mantioned, I have been getting results from wherever I can find them, but they are pretty sketchy as only the bare information is posted on the forums.

I have posted on MR asking if the round planned for August went ahead, but no results yet.
Hi Richo.

I'm happy to maintain the records for the foreseeable future, but I need people to support the effort by sending through results.

I'm prepared to do this because I'm interested in it, and I want to. Nothing else. No hidden agenda.

I'm not in contention for any ranking, so I can remain impartial and just process the information presented.

Only JPvR can commenton why James wasn't invited!
Are you sure he wasn't invited, and declined? Dunno, just guessing.

I've been swapping emails with JPvR and helping out for a five years (or more), so I'm just carrying on.
Once again, no hidden agend, just trying to help if/where I can.

Hey Steve,

thanks for the reply, I was in NO way suggesting ANY kind of "Agenda" !!,.. :)

I was just wondering How he suddenly had Info' and Pictures etc and was aware he was looking for 'Local' MOCPA co-ordinators etc.

Does he actually Have the relevant email addresses of the 3 x Australian drivers 'Invited' ?

Having spoken with Mark Fox, (who was completely unaware of his invitation), he seemed interested in the concept/event and was wondering what to do/where to go from here etc.

Should those 'Invited' simply reply to JPvR via his contact email address on the IMCA/MOCPA web site?

Stoo,
I'm not sure if JPvR has the relevant emails. I doubt it.

Seeing as the invitation was posted on the IMCA website, I would suggest that Troy, Mark, and Cody get a recent photo of themselves (a good head shot), and email it to JPvR ASAP on jppro@pandora.be accepting the invitation.

He likes to have a photo to publish, and prompt action.

If too much time goes by, he will figure that the individual is not interested, and remove their name from the list.

Thanks for the explanation Steve,

It just seemed to be a bit biased towards N.S.W. when we have quite a few good Retro drivers down here.

It makes it a bit hard for us Vics when all the "major events" are held in N.S.W.

However I guess you can only base a ranking on results.

See you all at the Nats in September.

Yes, it is very biased towards NSW, but up to now, that's where the 'Championship' events have been held.

Maybe there could be some Vic & Qld events that would attract interstate racers, so we can get a better coverage of results.

I'm thinking of averaging points gained from the last 5 events held, but racers must have at least 3 results in that same period to gain a ranking.

Anyone got any thoughts on that idea?

JPvR has posted his World Rankings

These are from all 'Championship' races from the beginning of Retro.
There are a few (interstate) names missing, so I'm not sure what happened there.

Some of the results are from only one race (eg mine from 2008) so don't reflect today's performers.

Rank Racer
10 Cody Bramble
14 Mark Fox
19 Troy Boldy
24 Dale Anderson
26 Stewart Amos
27 James Colefax
31 Bevin Halloran
54 Steve King
66 Rob Grlubesic
77 Wayne Bramble
78 Charles Rickards
87 Kim Axton
88 Jacco Stikkelorum
100 Daniel Haron
101 Chris Priday
107 Bill Wall
113 John While

As we record more events, the real ranking will show through.

Just checking back over JPvR's table, it appears that he only alots points for top 10 places, with points;
1st = 20
2nd = 15
3rd = 12
4th = 10
5th = 8
6th = 6
7th = 4
8th = 3
9th = 2
10th = 1
