Hi guys,
Sorry it has been so long to 'post' this particular race report, but due to Many varied circumstances I have been somewhat 'Behind the Eight ball'.
Main thing being my recent 'Move' to the Central Coast and not having My normal PC setup, and awaiting a New ADSL connection, Both of which has Now occurred, so hopefully, things should be as Normal from here on in, race report wise.
Anyway, on to the evenings racing.
Typically, I guess, it was all of 'The Usual' suspects attending.
1/32 Modern GT
As I had previously built up an SCX bodied Aston Martin, but not really given it a run, and being unhappy with the handling of my Scalextric bodied Maserati MC12, (a need to re-mount the body I fear), I concentrated on the Aston, made a few 'asjustments' prior to the start of racing and was basically happy, although there Was something Odd about the way the car went, which I Think I may have now sussed,...hopefully, as apart from possibly needing the front end/guide height re-adjusted, I discovered after the race, that I had a somewhat suspect Spur gear, as 1 tooth appears to have been improperly 'formed' so even though it ran OK, could be better after changing that offending item,..doh.
Seven of us lined up for the start of the 1/32 Modern GT class and in some ways, it is perhaps just a wee bit boring in the Number of Moslers taking the Start, (and people whinge about all the Ti-22's in Retro!!!), so along with Wayne (he being the only Other Division 2 car along with my Aston), all the other cars were division 1.
It was a relatively close race, but there was No way of competing against the very fast Moslers of Troy, Dale and James, who all finished well ahead of Jacco, myself and Jake, with Wayne bringing up the rear behind us.
So it was in effect a race with Two separate races going on.
The lap totals at the end showing how Close the two groups were, with the three leaders all having had held the lead at one stage or another.
Troy ended up winning, with 143 laps, James coming in second with 141 and a very close Dale 3rd with 140 laps.
Then there was the rest of us, with Jacco taking 4th from myself towards the end with 134 laps with myself finishing 5th on 133 laps and jake 6th with 132, with Wayne 7th on 109 laps.
1/24th Sports GT
Heat 1 had 8 starters for this class but being somewhat short on marshalls we ran 2 x Heats of 4. Not the best way to race really, but the two heats provided some Incredibly surprising and close racing, esecially in heat 1 !!
Gregg T, Jacco, James and myself lined up for the start and it sure seemed to us that the Track Was perhaps a wee bit 'slick', especially on Black, as I had Never had to drive So carefully with My Porka 917 as I did this Nite, else I was 'tapping the wall' almost everywhere, Even coming onto the main straight!!
I had an absolutely disastrous start on Green and Only turned 16 laps!!,.Well under what both I and the car are capable of, so was well behind the eight ball from the get go,..BUT, amazingly, as all our fortunes varied over the ensuing brackets, we were all somewhat amazed to find that ALL of Us, arrived at the beginning of the 7th bracket with 113 laps apiece !!! Quite amazing really and goes a long way to show just How Close the racing was !!!
Mind you, My Porka was by that stage starting to Really get a Move on and to be honest I was driving Very hard after my abysmal start, which resulted in myself managing to overhaul everyone by the end and grabbed 1st at the end of the 7th bracket to the end.
The final outcome being; Myself 1st with 154 laps, James 2nd with 153, having a Great tussle with Gregg T also with 153 taking 3rd and Jacco running well, after holding 1st and 2nd for ages coming in 4th with 150 laps. Absolutely Great stuff and a whole Heap of Fun!!
Heat 2 was Unfortunately for myself, even smoother and faster, with David, ( a very welcome Newcomer), doing extremely well in his first ever Plafit race, Troy, Jake and Dale, all turning Very good laps. although it was a Very Stable race position wise, whilst close, the final outcome Only being decided in the Last bracket!, more due to marshalling than driving, (Sorry Troy).
The outcome being Dale 1st with 155, Troy 2nd Also with 155 !!, Jake 3rd with 149 and Dave 4th with 129.
The Final outcome on the evening being;
1st Dale 155 laps
2nd Troy 155 laps
3rd Stoo 154 laps
Group C
Once again, we had realistically 2 separate races in one, with as before, Dale and Troy running their Hard Bodied Porsche and Sauber respectively, with the Other entrants all running their Newlay acquired Lexan bodied versions.
The Racing was Very close and enjoyable, with both Troy and Dale realistically Just having Fun together and almost 'Playing' with each other, but there was plenty of laughs along the way and some Great driving by the other three, being James, Jake and GreggT.
GreggT drove extremely well, as he usually does, to take a fine Win finishing with 151 laps, swapping places along the way with James, who eventually finished 2nd with 149 laps, Just Keeping Jake at Bay, towards the end, finishing Very close with 148 laps.
Troy won out against Dale, finishing 4th with 137 laps and Dale 5th with 132 laps.
I think Next time, all the current runners will have their Lexan bodied variants running, so should prove to be a much harder fought and close event!
Wayne provided some Very neatly finished Group C bodies, which can be clearly seen and appreciated from the accompanying photos.
So, once again it was Just another Great Night's racing, with a great bunch of friendly and fun people to race with,..just all Very typical HSC stuff really!!,..lol
Pics to follow,..Enjoy!

Re: HSC Plafit Series, Round 8
Hi Chadly, and Thanks!
Well, I Haven't actually Tried anything Myself, although I do have a Lancia LC2 I am starting to Prepare, but don't yet have a chassis to mount it on.
I would think that certain Sunset bodies Could be suitable, with perhaps their Thickness being the Only questionable aspect.
In fact, if you have a look here; http://forum.ascra.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=415 it seems to suggest a thickness of 15thou.
Not sure Any of the current Sunset bodies are that thick. Most as far as I am aware, would be 7thou.
Whilst I guess you could argue for the Lightness aspects, one Does also have to consider the overall weight of these cars, (which ain't No Lightweights), so a thicker body certainly aids in longevity and overall strength etc.
As noted in the link 'post', so far all the bodies that have been prepared and used, are from ACE hobbies, made by Andrew Bartholomew in Qld and appear to have been modelled from Existing Hard Body Plastic Kits.
