Hey guys,..
You know, somehow I Don't think I am Alone (especially after the recent State Titles), in beginning to Wonder about these F1's we have been running.
I mean apart from the 'Keeets',..Fox's F1, my Own f1 and Especially the Car Wayne built that Cody drove, have shown 'Degrees of Performance & Handling', let alone Lap times !!, that are More Impressive than many of Our Own previous Cars,..to say it Has started a Few of us thinking is an understatement.
I guess as the Lane spacing is Not 'Overly Wide' on the Flat track, and with all those 'Exposed Wheels' etc, I guess some of us had figured things could get Pretty Ugly!!,..lol
BUT,..this has NOT prioven to be the case,..in Fact one could Almost argue that the F1 Race was even Cleaner AND Fsaster than the Can Am race,..in Fact Cody set both Higher Lap Totals and Times in Every Bracket of the F1 Race than he did in canAm and Out Qualified the Best time in CanAm as well.
It IS interesting as well, that say My F1 is even Heavier than my CanAm, and is certainly NOT suffering in performance as a Race chassis.
As often mentioned before, nearly ALL 'Effective' chassis suitable for HSC are around the 120 to 130 gram bracket and having chatted about this after the racing the other night, Many of us were suggesting we were going to put 'Outriggers' on our F1's to Run them as Can Am cars!!,..lol
Seriously though,..it IS in Fact what John Gorski has been doing Very successfully for Many years and especially of Late, his cars look like F1's with Outriggers!
Over the recent years, Mike Steube has built Umteenth Dozen F1 chassis for Flat Tracks, Kingleman's and Kings and after building what appeared to be an effective design of F1 around the BPR Flat Track,..he appeared at a race with Basically Piano Wire 'Outriggers' on One of his recent F1's,..and proceeded to Win by a Country Mile !!,..lol
As we were chatting about this, I mentioned Keith Tanaka's Site, always Worth a Look to check out some current US chassis designs etc, but is also where That Steube car is,..so Here's a Link;

Kinda Makes Ya Wonder Eh !!??
I have added some Pics of Both the Aboves Cars as Examples of the , 'Single Car/Dual Purpose' concept.
Having partly designed my F1 to be able to Remove/Replace the centre 'Floating Weight' section of the Chassis, it Wouldn't be that Hard to incorporate a simple methodology to Add/remove the 'Outriggers' and/or centre weight.
Whilst I guess intrinsically Retro IS supposed to be a Scratch-builders class, there Are now a number of Kits running around Fairly effectively,..It is Also Good to see that They Have NOT Dominated in Any way.
Both Rob G's and TroyB's Slick7 F1's are on the Pace, as is Charles Rickards Slick7 CanAm,..mind you, all three of them have Quite an amount of Lead attached!!
The Racing and Driving standard of so Many of our Less experienced regulars, has improved immensely and the Racing has Only become faster, cleaner and therefore even Better,..AND a LOT More FUN !!!,..lol
I reckon what we Need Now, is for Some of the Guys who already Have Good Functioning cars to 'Fall Back on' as it were,..to Now 'Have a Crack' at Building their Own Cars !!!,..C'Mon Guys !!,..Get your'e Wife/Girlfriend/Mother to give you a Soldering Iron or Chassis Jig for Christmas !!!
I Will be Expecting a Lot of NEW Cars Next Year !!
AND Drivers,..!!!
I Hope you are Listening,..as there Will be answers at the End !!!....

Re: F1's and CanAm's,... an Interesting Comparison
All ears.
Well, that would be a good test, to fit longer pin tubes? & CanAm bods to the F1 chassis, and see how she goes.
I think I did see one of the US guys do something like that so he could run the same center section in two classes. Can't remember who tho, or if it was successful.

Yeah,..Worth a Try eh Steve !!??
OH One Other Major and Very Important thing I Forgot to mention,..We have been running the F1's on Half a Volt Less ,..(I believe), which Kinda also Makes for an Interesting situation.
The 'Vintage' guys also run at a Lower Voltage, but that is also because they run with a Lower overall applied level of Grip, but it does make for some interesting racing.

Re: F1's and CanAm's,... an Interesting Comparison
it'd be great to see people building their own chassis and cars, but unfortunently todays social climate means that not many people (even those that are interested) dont have the time required to gain the skills nessecary to assemble a car let alone design, build and test their own chassis.
pity really, but where theres a will theres a way!!
edit: slightly lower voltage (maybe varying low voltage for each round!!) = +ive

Petrol is for cleaning parts
Alcohol is for drinking
Nitro is for racing
Slotcars are for going VERY quick!
