Hey Guys,..Over at SlotBlog lately,..there have been a number of (shall we say,..'Typically' interesting 'posts' by JP Van Rossem).
One recent thread (ongoing), see here: http://slotblog.net/index.php?showtopic=18804&hl=
Involves a discussion Re a "Worlds" Retro/D3 race, on One Day and a Scale "Meccano" car Race on the Other.
It would appear JP, has intentions of Trying to Organise a Big event as His Last Major Sponsorship event in connection with slot cars.
There have been a Number of Ideas 'Bandied' about, in fact not sure Where this is heading,..If anywhere,...BUT for those thinking of Overseas Travel in the Forseeably Near future,..Possibly this event OR in Fact the CheckPoint Cup, could be of interest.
I must admit, I do find this type of 'Comparative' so called World's events somewhat 'Irrelevant', especially as One is NOT competing on a level playing Field, Unless ALL the Cars are Handouts and of a Different Type of car than what the competitors usually race, otherwise Racing and setup experience outweigh the relevany 'Driver' comparisons,..
Anyway,..just thought I'd mention it,..See what Happens,..
Gee,..I wonder if they would let Australians build all the RTR Handout Chassis !!????
Now That Would be interesting,.. and Fair !!
Some interesting Future Racing Possibilities,..Maybe!!??
Re: Some interesting Future Racing Possibilities,..Maybe!!??
So far, it's for 24 euro entrants and 8 mericans.
Hardly a Worlds, but I guess it's a start, and JPVR has offered air fares to get them there.
It's interesting to watch the thread.
They're up to the 'what rules do we use', and 'why can't we do this or that', and 'why are you changing our rules but you won't let us change your rules'. Ha!!
Where's the drinking and eating popcorn icon?

Re: Some interesting Future Racing Possibilities,..Maybe!!??
Yeah,..there is Quite a strong group with 'Anti JPvR' sentiments anyway, letalone the usual and ongoing, seemingly endless incarnations of these types of events,..lol
I mean WHO would the Yanks assign as 'Their' chassis builder??,...Steube isn't interested in this style of 'Pissing Contest',..Gorski??,..Please let it NOT be with nothing but Warmack chassis,..as good as they are,..they Ain't MY 'Ideal' Retro chassis!!
Interesting as Usual, the 'WORLD' seems to still be calculated from Maps originating in the 1400's !!!,...ROFL, as 'Apparently', the Southern Oceans and Antipodes, were Past all those Sea Monsters and was Over the Edge of the World !!,..lol
Although apart from one or two 'notable' exceptions, Not many Racers from that Era here in Australia, are still Racing/building and competitive!
BUT, I Could Imagine some Good team members !!,..
Let's see,..Mark Fox for Chassis, along with Kim Axton, (as he has raced Everything From Then onwards and IS Damn Fast !! Still the Old Bugger is Good!), although he Doesn't race Retro's I am Timmy Tyler would Have to be an inclusion and would Most Certainly 'Cope' with a Retro Car !!,..
It Would be a difficult choice,..lol
I KNOW !!
\
Let's Get GarryJ to build either a copy of the BPR Flat Track and Or MTT Track and they Can ALL Come Down to Australia to Race !!,..We have 'Acceptably' Fast Kings here as well,..if Not,..then Hold it in a New Venue and Build One of Each, for a Truly Huge event,..Perhaps it could Coincide with some Other Major Motor racing event here !!,..
Yeah!,..Like THAT is going to Happen !!!,..ROFL

Re: Some interesting Future Racing Possibilities,..Maybe!!??
Probably Wayne B could be a guy to build semi-mass production batch of frames. He is the main guy, thankfully, to get the Retro scene going in Sydney by building a stack of frames in the beginning, and the buggers don't go half bad either.
Tim Tyler has had experience in the US with John Tore Anderson when he went over for the wing car worlds in 07. Dunno if he has had anything to do with retro since then tho.
If you check out Keith Tanaka's photos, there are a lot of podium finishes for each of the Warmack, JK, and Slick chassis kits, so any of those would be worth considering to get things happening.
Stoo, I realise that you are full blooded scratch builder, but unfortunately you are in the minority and to get things going, I think most people want to be primed and helped along the way to make the introduction as simple as possible. Once they get into it with a bought frame, they may have a go at building something.
It does sound like there are many questions to be answered before that 'Worlds' in Europe can take place next year, but JPVR is a tuff old guy, and doesn't let too many things phase him.

Re: Some interesting Future Racing Possibilities,..Maybe!!??
Well,..as I just 'Posted' on SlotBlog,..as JP wants to make his Final Slot Car event a Big one, I was thinking, along with Werners' Obvious German connection as well,..that considering how popular the recent V8 Supercars Race at Homebush was, Perhaps having ALL of the Europeans and Americans coming Here to Race at as mentioned say Two New Custom Tracks out at Homebush.
It could be a Publicly attendable event and could get some TV coverage !!
Much easier to organise at This event compared to say F1 !!,..lol
I figure, the Scale cars could all be Built to a Particular Standard and would have to be the same chassis (as would the Retro's),..
I thought if they Really wanted to have a 'Comparitive' event then Racing on 'Uncommon Ground, with Cars that They Know and race, but Haven't built,..Would be Ultimately fair !!
It will Never Happen though !!!,..ROFL
I am interested to see how they eventually sort this concept out,..IF they Ever do!!,..lol
